This week's focus study was on Blake's "All Religions are One". The title itself, suggests that there is no better, or right religion which governs our beliefs, but rather all religions are the same, but come in different forms. Blake seems to have no preference of religion it seems (hence the title) but at the same time, acknowledges that there is or may be a God/Higher Power. It almost seems as if he is implying that it isn't so much the structured religions that bring us spiritual healing and fulfilment, but on our actions. Blake suggests that it is through creativity, art, music, things that we as humans create, that brings spiritual fulfilment. This is shown in his second principle, "As all men are alike in outward form, So (and with the same infinite variety) all are alike in the Poetic genius." So if all men are alike in outward form, that would mean that they all look the same, or at the very least, similar. Therefore, the same could be said for (the structured) religions and that they are essentially the same, but each presenting different "faces". This goes against common belief that religions are all very different and that at the same time, it seems to take away authority from the institutionalised church.
