Back on track

Apparently the main reason I've been foundering lately has been lack of sleep. djjo and I decided to improve our sleeping habits, so several weeks ago we started setting the alarm for 7 a.m. That was easy, but trying to go to bed earlier was another matter. The immediate result, for me at least, was sleep deprivation. Consequently all the other good habits established over the past year started to unravel.

I knew in time I would hit the wall and the problem would correct itself. That finally happened on Saturday. I was a wreck. Since then I've been in bed with lights out by midnight, usually earlier.

This week I had to go back to basics to reset my routine, particularly getting back to daily exercise before my body forgets its progress. That's falling back into place. So are daily salad lunches.

Surprisingly, I feel like writing first thing in the morning. That hasn't been the case for a long, long time. So I've continued using Ommwriter, peeling off 1,000 words in no time. The stream-of-consciousness practise makes me sleepy, an extremely rare sensation for me during daylight hours. I think it is opening and relaxing me at a new level.

I hesitate to record this success. Conceit and complacency can trigger a downfall. But it seems appropriate to provide an update on Monday's self-deprecating post.

I'm happy to have my motivation back and hope it continues. Late summer leading into fall can be a tricky time.
