Wrapping up Mahler

Here I am continuing (after some months) an inventory of Mahler's symphonies, as recommended by Norman Lebrecht in his book Why Mahler?: ( from No. 4 )

Fascinating! Apparently the author is not fond of Bernstein as a Mahler conductor. (One European trained pianist of my acquaintance stopped attending NY Philharmonic concerts altogether during the Bernstein years.) The majority of my Mahler recordings are vinyl from the 1960s and haven't been listened to for about thirty years.

His comment about Bernstein's version of Mahler's 7th (only partially quoted here) was complimentary. Lebrecht picks and chooses. He does not recommend any one interpreter for all the symphonies, with the exception of Bruno Walter who was a friend of Mahler.
