Q: What do you call a bear who isn't getting enough protein?
A: Lonely.
The other possible answer is: malnourished. The nutritionist says I'm not getting enough (a) protein or (b) fibre. Something to eat every four hours is ideal, she says. Protein with every meal and snack, including two servings of meat daily. One egg per day should be okay. In my effort to reduce cholesterol by avoiding saturated fat, I've been starving myself of protein. Also, she says, almond milk doesn't make the cut because it isn't fortified with vitamin D or calcium. But back home the label on Blue Diamond Almond Breeze says one cup contains 30 per cent of daily calcium. I can also stand to increase my vegie consumption. Essentially, she says I'm not eating enough through the course of the day; it's no wonder I get intense hunger pangs late in the afternoon and before bed. In any case I have some rethinking, planning and work to do.
Because the car broke down on Tuesday afternoon, I won't find out results of the latest blood tests for a couple weeks.
