It's so cold, the air catches in one's beard and snow squeaks underfoot. With the wind chill this afternoon it is -30°C/-34°F. The camera wouldn't work outside the car for more than 30 seconds, unless I enclosed it in warm hands, but bare skin doesn't last much longer before frostbite threatens. Ah yes--blowing and drifting! We're familiar with that! (Stephe refers to this kind of weather as "beard-freezing cold". It's not complimentary; he's learned to let the breath ice just melt of its own accord.)

I kind of like that feeling, like my beard takes on an unusual presence, and insistence. It's like extra fortification against the cold, which I don't care for.
