I just have to get this off my chest because I've heard people moaning and complaining about this for the past several days.
I, too, am not thrilled that Black Friday is starting on Thursday and that retailers like Target and WalMart are making their employees work on what should be a work-free holiday. However, all that anger that these mean, evil, and horrible stores are opening early is misplaced.
If you want to blame somebody, blame the millions of product hungry shoppers who salivate for these Black Friday deals. Blame the millions who stampede (and trample) into stores the second they open and fight for a new TV. Blame the millions of people who were out there, this very year, waiting in line before the turkey came out of the oven.
The stores are just giving those millions of consumers what they want! We live in a supply and demand society. What people demand, stores supply. And just look at the shopping habits of us Americans over the last decade or two. We are so focused on buying the newest, hottest crap at 70% off that time spent with family loses out.
So don't blame Target. Blame the line around the store that started forming that morning.
