I knew it was bound to happen, it was just a matter of time. Today was the day. The enclosure must not have been big enough...
I got home from school today and as is normal, I took a look inside the tank. But there was something wrong. I couldn't find my pretty little pet! I moved some of the pieces around, but there was no doubt about it. He was gone.
Somehow... my betta fish had escaped the fish tank.
Yeah, the snake was sitting pretty under a plant. The FISH was gone! I moved everything and there was no sign of him. I looked around the tank and there was nothing; no sign of water either. I was just about convinced that, for whatever reason, one of my housemates had come into my room and taken the fish out of the tank. Heaven knows why they would, but that's all that I could fathom. But that's when I noticed that my desk came from a business office. There is a little hole carved into the surface specifically for wires. I looked under the desk and there was a box of random junk under the hole. Thinking it unlikely, I pulled the box out from under the desk.
I started pawing through the newspapers when, finally, something wriggled. And I admit I jumped and let out a bit of a yelp. But there, in the folds of the newspaper, was my betta fish. I have no idea how long he had been there but when I tried to scoop him up, his long decorative fin was dried to the paper. But like I said, he was still moving!
I can't figure out how or why, but he JUMPED out of the tank. Last night I had put more water in so the tank was pretty full, but there's still some distance he had to clear there. I don't know how long he was out of the water, but he seems to be okay now. He's moving a bit slower at the moment, but I hope that with a little time to recuperate, he'll be fine.
And Sly is just sitting there in his snake tank, looking at me as if to say "And you were worried about ME escaping?"
