Well, a long time ago (about 1998 or thereabouts), I noodled out an idea for what would have been Episode VII. This was before the New Jedi Order books, the Legacy Comics, or any of the other next-generation sagas came out, so bear with me.
I would have picked up about 15 years after the
Pellaeon-Gavrisom Treaty, or about 30 years after the events of Episode VI: Return of the Jedi. The New Republic and the "Galactic Empire" (as it still calls itself, although it hasn't had any monarch in years and only holds 8 sectors) have been at peace during that 15 year period, with the various heroes having retired or (in the case of General Wedge Antillies) leading warlord-busting campaigns. But, of course, this all gets tested by a resurgent ancient threat -- no, I'm not giving away just which ancient threat. Got to keep some suspense going. :)
Our band of main heroes would have included the Solo siblings (Jacen, Jaina, and Anakin), the still-beleagured C-3PO (now having to translate for Anakin's
R6-series unit), Chewie's son Lumpawaroo, and Boba Fett. Well, not the original Boba Fett, he succumbed to cancer (Sarlacc digestive systems being very bad things for your DNA even if you do escape them). This would have been a protege trained by Fett who assumed the name as well as armour, with his blessing if not that of the Mandos at large. "The Dread Bounty Hunter Boba Fett", if you will. ;)
At least one of the main plot arcs would involve the search for Luke Skywalker, who vanished from the galaxy at large some years ago, going into seclusion to ponder the deeper mysteries of the Force that Yoda did not have time to train him in... and dwelling on his old teacher's words:
If once you start down the dark path, forever will it dominate your destiny....
Needless to say, there would be quests, swordfights, space battles, at least one Dark Side Swordmistress (again, this idea predated the canonverse's
Darth Talon), political intrigue, droid-at-sea comedy, and a villian who's read the script before anyone else. :)
A little bit lighter than what we got in text, perhaps, but I thought it a fitting continuation, back then. Still do, every now and again (though the Legacy comics did exceed my expectations greatly).
