Calm before the rush -- the countdown starts now.

FRED was pretty good last night. We seem to be able to keep a stable, rotating turnout of 3-4 folks, not anywhere in the ballpark of the days of yore, but whenever one stalwart doesn't make it, that's when another can. Now, the trick is to get people coming in from the cold. It helps that Garth's on board -- indeed, today was BCSFAzine distro night, and so he came to FRED. With him and earthfur to help me spread the word, people will at least know that we are still around, and where.

Now that it's done, though, the countdown to VCon begins in earnest. For me, as I have mentioned, the highlight of this year's con will be the fact that I intend to host a room party. Now for this party, I'm going with a "Battlestar Galactica" theme. (May even declare my room the headquarters for the Colonial Government in Exile. I'm silly that way.) Anyway, we need three things. Video, Booze (remember, drink responsibly, unless you're Colonel Tigh) and Toast. Lots of Toast. (Also English Muffins, I think.) Joe will be doing a Costco run which should take care of bread and more traditional snacks, and I can always get the drink on Friday Daytime. Saturday if I'm really falling behind.

So that leaves video. We've got Saga of a Star World (the theatrical print of the 1978 pilot) from Joe's collection, and I picked up BSG Season 1 a while back. What we'll need are BSG-TOS: the complete 1978 series, and BSG Season 2 . It would be a good idea to see if we can capture the premiere of Season 3, and hey, let's throw in some bootlegs of Galactica 1980 (As far as I know, it's not had an official release) and the Webisodes. I might be able to get Fruvous to show me how to do some Youtube captures, that we could also get to see the fan-made music videos.

(Speaking of BSG, I've been thinking that I might have to start or find a Tahmoh Penikett Appreciation Society. I keep running into folk who are still in the "HURF BURF STARBUCK IS GURL" phase regarding BSG-RDM, and I'm finally like "Okay, you don't like FemmeStarbuck? Fine. What about Helo over here, he's got a fair chunk of Classic-Starbuck business, what with being stranded on a planet, finding the prettiest girl on it, being obliged to make friends with a Cylon, and fathering a child that could prove pivotal to the future of the Fleet." And these critics say "Helo? Who him?", which makes me think he needs to be promoted more. Granted, Mr. Penikett is a second- and not a first-rank cast member, but still -- his arc went a long way towards hooking me on the new show, and I think it can do a lot to sway at least some of the critics.)

Anyway, if anyone has video they'd like to contribute, let me know.

bsg, vcon 31, forget reality enjoy drinking
