Yes, you read correctly. I am the future Mrs. Rutkowski, and I could not be happier!
We got home late on Christmas Eve, and he kept wanting open presents early.
"It's after midnight, so it's Christmas morning DeAnn!"
I knew I wasn't going to sleep, so we proceeded to open our gifts in front of the Christmas tree. I left at the end to go our bedroom and get my surprise to him: a white gold and diamond ring. Of course, I cried as I explained why I got it for him.
Then, he told me to close my eyes.
When he finally let me open them, he was down on one knee in front of me with one hand, and asked if I would marry him. I was speechless; I couldn't tell you how long I sat in front of him, with my hand over my mouth and shaking, eyes going back and forth between him and the ring. I managed to squeak out a "YES!", and went in to his arms. This was at 1:30 a.m. I called my sister, and Silver.
After that, he asked if I wanted to try it on. Of course. It fit perfectly. I found out that he purchased this from Mike, so a friend of seven years was also a part of this occasion. He had to send out for my ring to be made how I would like it: set in white gold instead of yellow, and sized down to a 4. My ring is gorgeous, by the way. White gold, 1/2 a carat, brilliant princess cut, colorless (I have the card on my ring! Can you tell?)It sparkles, and all day I've stared at it, still in shock over it.
The first person in my family to know was my Nana. Then, on Thursday, he asked my parents permission for my hand in marriage. (And showed them the ring) They said yes; they all really like Billy. Who wouldn't? And his co-workers knew, his mom, his mom's boyfriend and his sister and niece, Billy's brother, my mom's co-workers. Well, a lot of people knew before me. He was actually intending to propose New Year's Eve, but couldn't wait.
We went to bed, with him taking me in his arms, and whispering of how he couldn't wait for me to be his wife. We plan on a wedding in 2006.
And I've called a LOT of people today.
I am so thrilled, so ELATED, I feel like I'm flying. I look at my ring, the promise of a lifetime with Billy, and knowing how much I am loved by him, and tear up. I am blessed; I truly am.
I hope you all had a beautiful Christmas.
