In an attempt to keep this updated with little free time to do so, I'm using mostly as a travel and sewing blog. Its been a bit quiet since November due to lack of either, so this is a little post just to keep using it!
Sewing - not much going on, as I kind of lost my mojo last year along with stress at the amount of unused beautiful fabrics in my stash. Instead of a big sewing project over Christmas, I focussed on a few stash projects - however I do find making "normal" clothes really boring
I loved this fabric but didn't really know what to do with it - being such an ordered pattern really limits the possibilities, so I was rather uninspired and made this skirt for work
More successful, I wanted to try out my
bolero pattern from Cosplay by McCalls and had some lightweight camo fabric which I had earmarked to make a blouse:
This has come out really well - the pattern is generously sized, has a lovely curved hem at the back and big puffy sleeves. Perfect for gigs and festivals! I will be making more from this pattern.
But still not getting anywhere with my beautiful Tula Pink fabrics - I have an idea to make a ludicrously bright victorian dress with skulls, bats, spiders etc but have put it off as i can't visualise what would accent the fabrics i have already. So I've decided to go about this another way, make the mock-up, get it fitting right, then see what fabric it "tells" me to use. fingers crossed!
Travel plans. Still yearning to return to Mexico but we've already booked for Wave Gotik Treffen, followed by a few days in Berlin, so in an attempt to quell my longing, decided on a pre-Brexit mini-break. Was originally thinking of Spain, maybe going back to Seville, or otherwise Granada or Cordoba.
Then I saw images of Lisbon and maybe it made me think of Mexico - shabby crumbling buildings and bright colours
so decision was made! Booking 3 nights (or 2.5 days) in Lisbon, then getting a train to nearby Sintra and spending another 2 nights (2.5 days!) there to explore some of the amazing palaces and castles - the place looks like a real life Disneyland!
It does apparently get very busy with tourists, so we're hoping that it won't be too bad in March (whilst also praying for no rain!) and staying overnight in Sintra gives us a head start on the day-trippers.
So that's something to look forward to, in a year which otherwise looks very onerous.
