In-flight Movies (x-posted to Facebook)

This post is primarily to remind me what I watched on board, which wasn’t much as I was struggling to stay awake whilst at the same time unable to sleep.

On the way out, my first film was Isle of Dogs, whilst Rob watched Tomb Raider.

I’m usually not a fan of Wes Anderson movies but absolutely loved this one, his dead-pan monologue style being ideal for a film set in the far east, mostly about dogs.

I then started to watch Ferdinand and fell asleep half-way through, resuming later towards the end of the flight.  It was sweet but a bit too schmaltzy and bored me a bit.

For the return journey we flew with Air France, who didn’t have a great selection of non-French films.  We both started with Ant Man and the Wasp, which was OK but not classic Marvel. Although rather poignant to see the usual Stan Lee cameo after just learning that he had died.
Rob moved on to Ready Player One, which he said was OK but I wanted to try something a bit different and selected a Japanese sci-fi / superhero film called Inuashiki.  Despite falling asleep halfway through again, I really enjoyed this film. About a failing middle age man and a drop-out teenage boy both encountering something in the woods which turned them into cyborgs.  The man used his powers for good, saving lives and learning to fly, whilst the boy decided to take revenge on the world he felt had wronged him. It seems to be a pretty new release, based on a manga TV series, so its definately one for me to flag up to watch on DVD - or for me to recommend for others to watch if you’re into this genre!  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xj8b3IbuFU0
