I received one of the leaflets through my letterbox yesterday, and I can safely say it ruined my day. I will be voting against, and am probably going to write letters to whoever will listen ("no" campaign

To be honest I'd be more than happy to pay £10 to stop the people from the other side of the main road from sticking their 2 sodding cars in front of my house thus making me walk backwards and forwards from the bottom of the street with great big sacks of cat litter on my shoulder and 15 bags of shopping from Asda.*rant over*
If your neighbours pay their tenners then they can still park in front of your house.
Even though you are voting no I would definately get them to define where and if permit holders can park on the main roads before any discussions go ahead because that is going to be the bug bear.
Yes, this is sensible. However the rules of the consultation don't allow it. We have to vote "yes or no" to the principle, then we get hit with "proposals". The problem is that we (the people) don't draw up the proposals, and it would be very easy for all of the proposals to be plain daft.
One of the councillors has gone on record and almost apologised for the tone of the leaflet that makes it sound like a done deal.
Nicola - not having a go at you or the other traffic wardens. You're doing your job (as annoying as it can be at times - but hey, a fair cop is a fair cop!). If you've not got influence over policy then you're really not in my firing line at all!
Yes, people do park in stupid places; people will start to park in even more stupid places if it means that they can avoid paying to park. These schemes only ever move the problem a bit further down the street, and we the locals have to pay for the privilege.
The people who put their cars in front of my house aren't neighbours they don't even live on my street that's the annoying thing. I didn't think you were having a go at the wardens I was just trying to give you some info from the inside as it were. From what I remember from when the Ecclesall scheme went ahead they did have meetings with the councillors and people's ideas were listened to. I spoke to a shop owner a few months ago who told me he had some of his suggestions taken on board so maybe it is worth a try getting in touch with your councillor and putting the issues to him/her.
I personally can't see why the main road would be P&D only as some of the roads around you are very short and as you say not big enough for all the vehicles. The reason Ecclesall Rd does not allow permits is because it is an urban clearway at certain times and needs to be kept clear for buses. Middlewood road already has bays designed to keep the roads clear for the tram so making it dual purpose would make little difference but I have too much common sense to be allowed to make those sort of decisions, unlike the people who make them in this council ;-)
