OMG I gave in. I'm SO NORTHSHORE!!!! T_T I bought a pair of UGGs today, damnit. I feel guilty yet wonderfully soft and comfy..altho that might be the UGGs. I don't care, my toes are toasty and warm. After a couple weeks of having my toes freeze into little toe-popsicles while walking around on the quad I gave into my Northshore or rather my survival instincts. I shall now explain why i felt the need to buy Uggs.
Firstly, they're warm, OH YES, they are WARM. While other people are scurrying along on the sidewalks praying that they don't get frostbite before they reach their dorms, I will be strolling along admiring the scenery, and formulating odes to the wonderful season that is Winter, in my head of course.
Secondly, they are marvelously fashionable as well as practical, as I am now taking my cue from the Korean fashion scene, the UGGs that I have bought are wonderfully in style. They also do not look like regular UGGs which is a big plus in my book (no offense to those who own a pair), and the tops are able to fold down to create a cuff, quite versitile indeed. They are also supposedly quite water and weather-proof which one finds increasingly important when on a college campus without the immediate use of a car.
Thirdly, I am not currently residing in the Northshore, oh well I am at the moment as I am home for break, but after this week I shall be required to head back to that wonderful institution that is the University of Illinois, back to the cornfields and all that rubbish. Therefore each square-mile is not as densly packed with typical Northshore inhabitants as New Trier is, so I do not have to feel as if I'm conforming to the mass, that you know we all like to ridicule, that is if you are from around the Northshore area.
This brings us to my final point (ha I broke up the style of the paper, nah nah nah). My cohort in crime or the girl more commonly known as Amanda said to me something that made quite a bit of sense. "Why does it matter? Aren't you just conforming to those people, who say that they don't want to conform?" While this is not a very new idea, many of us have struggled with it, I have to say that it did knock some sense into me. Why DO I care? If any of you are bothered by the fact that I am walking around and wearing UGGs then come and tell me to my face, and perhaps throw a glove in my face if you feel very strongly about it. As for me, I'll be busy conforming to whatever the hell i like. Thank you.

All this is written mostly for my own amusement, and partially because my sister laughed at me when I said that I had bought UGGs (only because I had formerly sworn never to buy them). Most of the people reading this probably don't give a damn what sort of footware adorn my darling little toesies.
