Sorry for being such a fair weather friend LJ, it is not you, it is me.
The year 2012 was pretty awful, I can't say that I'm sad to see it gone.
It started out promising, I was elected to be the president of our AAZK chapter. We got the ball rolling on a fantastic fundraiser for the Red Panda Network and the chapter seemed reinvigorated after years of inactivity. Then suddenly, Kurtis killed himself. The day before he did it we had talked, we'd been having a good time getting the chute set up for trimming goat hooves when he made a comment that he thought he was getting fired. I knew why he thought it as we'd talked about his situation before so I did my best to assure him that he had done nothing wrong and was a good employee so there was no way they'd fire him. The next day he didn't show up to work and we knew something was wrong. The months after that were a blur. I covered his section a few days while they tried to figure out who to put there, but it was too hard being at work, being with his animals was worse. I ended up on stress leave to try and sort myself out.
Things weren't much better when I came back. The person covering my section wasn't an individual who should have been left working on their own. I tried talking to my supervisors about it but I was dismissed and told I was disrespectful. It took serious acts of negligence on his part before they finally removed him but sadly the damage done to my section was permanent.
I do still have good friends, and my family so they helped me through the hard times. By the time the year rolled to an end I have a wonderful new pet thanks to Kris. Boris is a Russian Tortoise, the kind I've been dreaming of for years. I was lucky enough that a friend knew I wanted one so when she saw an ad for one being re-homed on Kijiji she let me know. I was torn at first about getting just him or him & his lady friend. I decided to go for him and it turned out that the fact that I was willing to take just him is why I was picked to get him out of the other people vying for him.
