Summary: Love has a funny way of putting people into difficult situations.
Prev. A loud thump cuts through the silence, a shorter, older man looks sharply at the two young men in front of him. He clenches the fists that just hit his desk and had difficulties speaking because of how angry he was.
“This punk ass kid has fucked with me for the last time!”
He stood up and paced behind his desk, his leather arm chair having been thrown to the side and lay forgotten on the floor.
“There is no evidence, no finger prints, the fucking bullet exploded in his head, no one caught it on a fucking video…” He breathes out heavily, “I know that fucking punk did it.”
The man’s fists trembled before he knocked everything off his desk, a lamp crashed to the floor, scattering shards of glass that mixed with stray papers filled with ink, “He thinks he can just fucking do what he wants! Children need to be put in their place.”
He turns to the two in front of him, voice quieter but anger obviously pulsed in his voice, “Minho, Jonghyun, I have a job for both of you.”
He picks up two manila folders that escaped being shoved to the floor with everything else and handed one to each of the men, “Minho, the girl in that folder is named Taeyon. I hear that she might be involved with Yongguk, I don’t know how, but all I know is that she seems to be ‘coincidently’ around a lot of people who die. Get close to her, I don’t care how but do it now. I want you to know everything about her, when she wakes up, who she talks to, where she goes, and when she goes there.”
Jonghyun cuts their boss off, looking over at the open folder in Minho’s hand, “Uhm….that seems a bit creepy boss, what is she? Like 10?”
The man glares at Jonghyun for cutting him off, “13 Jonghyun, and I don’t give a shit how old she is, if she is involved with that dick head then she is asking for it.”
Jonghyun scrunches up his nose, “It is still creepy as hell.”
Minho looks up, away from the sweet looking girl that just looked soft, “How could she be involved with a gang…she looks like a doll.”
Jonghyun nods, “Exactly! She is way too cute!”
Their boss pinched the bridge of his nose and glared at the two, “I don’t trust her; she probably is like that so idiots like you won’t expect anything! Minho just do as I say.”
Minho sighed and nodded, looking through the folder as Jonghyun took his and looked at it.
“Jonghyun, there is a place that Taeyon frequents-“
“The cutest café I have ever seen in my life, is this a joke?” Jonghyun looks up suspiciously.
“Jonghyun I swear to fucking god if you cut me off again I will cut your throat.”
Jonghyun scrunches up his nose, murmuring about how he is an ass hole in which their boss chooses to ignore, “Good, now go and investigate, I hear she hangs out with one of the workers quite frequently so you are to learn about him.”
Jonghyun pulls out the picture and tilts his head to the side, “At least he is cute.”
“He is 16 Jonghyun.”
“Fucking shit fuck.” Jonghyun glares at their boss, “What in the hell do you want us to do?! Stalk minors? Is that what you’re doing now? Child prostitution?”
Minho rolls his eyes and the boss glares, “Jonghyun, quit complaining and do it, understand?”
Jonghyun shook his head, leaning back in his chair, “Yea, yea sure.”
Their boss nodded, looking at both of the men, the best in his gang, “Alright, you both start now.”
---------------------------------------
Jonghyun sighed deeply as he stood outside of the café, the place was small, but cozy, the side of the building was all glass windows with cute coffee mug designs on them with bubbly words such as ‘yum’ or ‘delicious’. He huffed and walked into the building, looking up at the soft chiming of bells before taking his sunglasses off his face. He scanned the place quickly; he didn’t see that one girl there so he figured that eavesdropping wasn’t going to be an option. Jonghyun walked up to the cash register and looked at the menu of drinks while waiting for the worker to come back, probably from finishing another customer’s drink.
“Hello what can I get you?”
Jonghyun heard the voice but he didn’t look at the owner, instead he scanned the menu once more, quickly, before finally deciding, “An americano.”
“Alright would you like anything else?”
Jonghyun finally looked at the owner of the voice and his eyes widened a bit, there in front of him was none other than the man he was supposed to be looking for and he was much cuter in person.
“Ah- uh no, thanks” Jonghyun wanted to kick himself, he is fucking 26 years old but this 16 year old has him fumbling around and he hasn’t even done anything to him but ask him what drink he wanted.
The man, his name tag read Kibum, smirked and took Jonghyun’s card, their hands brushing and Jonghyun wasn’t sure if that was on purpose or not but it made his heart beat speed up a bit. Kibum ran the card and punched some numbers into the machine before handing it back, Jonghyun taking it with a soft word of thanks.
“It will be ready soon.” With that Kibum was off to make the drink and Jonghyun went to sit down at a table by a window but near the register just in case he needed to hear anything.
Jonghyun pulled out his black lap top and smiled when Kibum came closer to him, handing him his drink, “Thank you.”
Kibum smiled a bit, nodding once before walking back behind the counter to continue working. Jonghyun was really going to do some research, work for once in his life; however Kibum proved to be much more interesting to look at as he slowly drank his bitter coffee. To be honest, he really didn’t like it that much but if Minho knew he drank sweet coffees he would make fun of his masculinity for the rest of their lives. A few minutes suddenly turned into an hour, and then one turned to two and before Jonghyun knew it he just spent two hours watching Kibum work, take orders from customers, make coffee with the upmost care, and being very polite. Jonghyun decided he really liked his smile, when he truly smiled, and convinced himself he was looking at the boy as if he was a loving hyung and nothing more because Kibum was a minor. Jonghyun was knocked out of his day dream when suddenly Kibum was right next to him, startling the elder and making him slightly embarrassed.
“Is there something you need?” Kibum sounded a bit irritated, but there was some sort of emotion in the undertone of his voice.
“Ah n-no, I am alright thank you.” Jonghyun said with a smile.
“Ah I see, I was a bit confused because you were just staring at me for the past two hours.” There was a hint of a smirk pulling at the corner of his lips.
Jonghyun blushed softly, coughing awkwardly and rubbing the back of his head, messing with the hat on his head a bit, “Ahh…yea…well would you like to go out to dinner sometime with me?”
Key raised an eye brow, “I don’t even know you.”
“Jonghyun frowned, “Well you could.”
Key couldn’t hide his smile now; it was a playful one, “What makes you think I want to?”
Jonghyun flashes a smile as well, “I promise you’d like it.”
Both of Key’s eyebrows raised from this and felt his body heat up a bit, this guy was incredibly good looking and he was actually into men. Key chuckled once, shaking his head and picking up Jonghyun’s cup, pulling a sharpie out of his apron and writing his phone number on the cup and setting it down.
“You better not disappoint.” He smirked, turning to leave because his shift just ended.
Jonghyun smiled probably a lot wider than he should have and looked at the number, “Don’t worry you won’t be.”
----------------------
Minho waited by a small convenience shop that his boss said rumored to be Taeyon’s favorite and leaned against a brick wall thinking this was stupid, what was the chance that the girl would actually go by there that day? Minho leaned his head back and groaned inwardly, he had already been standing there for half an hour and no luck and he was beginning to feel like he should just come back a different day. However, as soon as he pushed himself off the wall his eyes widened when the small girl turned the corner and walked on the opposite side of the street of Minho. He followed behind her, making a quick call and looking around, she seemed to be alone and Minho almost felt bad. She was so small, her light brown hair was loosely curled and a soft pink dress with white polka dots fluttered with the gentle wind.
“She is almost to you.” He hung up the phone and casually crossed the street, his hands sliding easily into his pants pockets.
Right on cue a man came out of an ally behind Taemin and grabbed his arm, causing him to turn quickly and look with wide eyes. He tried to pull away but the grip on his arm only tightened and he was pulled closer.
“W-wait, l-let me go! W-who are you?”
The man only chuckled, “Such a cute girl shouldn’t be walking by herself.” The man slipped an arm around Taemin’s waist and pulled him closer.
Taemin pushed at the man’s chest, tears clouding his vision, “S-stop…”
“Hey!” Minho yelled out, jogging over to them and pushing the man away, “Get lost!”
The man sneered at the two as Taemin hides behind Minho, “Come on, don’t be an ass and share.”
Minho shoved the man when he started to walk closer, “I said get lost.”
The other man leaves angrily and Minho sighs, turning to Taemin and opens his mouth to say something but he is cut off by the younger throwing his arms around him and hugging him tightly. Minho honestly feels really bad for making a girl so scared.
“Hey…” His voice is much softer than he expected it to be, “It is alright, he is gone ok? He won’t bother you again.” Minho hugged him until his tears died down to just a few sniffles.
Minho gently pet his head, looking down, “What is your name?”
“T-Taeyon…” He says quietly causing Minho to smile.
“Well my name is Minho and I can walk you home. I don’t want you to be hurt and such a young girl really shouldn’t be out by herself.”
Taemin bit his bottom lip and looked down, “I-I can’t go home now.”
Minho felt his heart clench, “Well, I live close to here so you can come over and stay as long as you like. I can make us something to eat, but don’t expect much, my cooking skills are not that good.”
Taemin looked up and smiled softly, “A-are you sure? You don’t even know me Minho-ssi.”
Minho chuckles lightly and ruffles Taemin’s hair, causing him to pout and Minho can’t believe how cute this girl is, “I know you need someone to look out for you and I want to be that someone.”
Taemin blushed softly and turned to hide his small smile, but Minho saw it and it caused his heart to flutter and he gently placed a hand on his lower back to lead him. The walk was short to Minho’s fake apartment, he had it furnished and there was even food in the fridge to make it more believable. The elder smiled from Taemin looking around his apartment, looking at absolutely everything and Minho could see that she was a kid.
“Are you hungry?”
Taemin stopped and smiled softly, nodding, “Yea a bit.”
Minho chuckled, “Aish you’re too cute, sit down and I’ll get us something.”
Taemin blushed and sat down on the couch, looking at the TV mounted on the wall and continued to inspect the new surroundings, “Your apartment is very nice Minho-ssi.”
“Ahh, you don’t have to speak formally with me Taeyon-ah, and thank you.” He smiled, coming back with bar rice cakes and setting them in Taemin’s lap before sitting next to him.
Taemin smiled shyly, “Ah- ok oppa.”
Minho had to admit he liked being called that…he liked it a lot, “We can watch some TV ok?”
Taemin nodded and turned to the TV, eating the snacks and watching one of his favorite shows actually. Half way through he put his head on Minho’s shoulder causing Minho to smile softly. He forgot this was part of his job and simply enjoyed the adorable young girl’s company.
