All right. There is an experiment I want to do for myself, but...well, let me back up.
I haven't done theatre work in a while. It's been a few years, much to my shame, but suffice it to say, I feel super rusty. Being out of the game does that to you.
But. I want to bolster my portfolio. (And dig it out, and make a digital version of it, but that's another thing entirely.) I figure the best way to do that while I'm not in any productions is to do some dummy ones.
So it'd go like this:
- Start with a play/tv show (because why not) and a fake budget.
- Read the play
- Make a props list (or adapt the one that is there because you never implicitly trust the one that's in the script)
- Plan out what things could possibly be pulled from storage.
- What can be bought.
- What can be made. (I won't go with rentals for the simple fact that this is a dud project, so I won't waste people's time, but I figure furniture rentals will have to factor into this.)
- Do this in a set amount of time, start to finish.
- If possible--and this is a big if--if I can make a prop? Maybe I'll do it. It really depends on what, what materials, etc. And if I can't do it, but I think it's something that should be crafted, I'll price it up/design it. That sort of thing.
My only problem: I have no idea where to start. And that is where I need some help. I need people to suggest a few plays. If people want to go further and play director? That'd be even cooler. And it'd help me out so I had someone to report to along the way. (And without the production meetings! Awesome.)
But yes. I really would like some help! If you are on-board, here are a couple places with scripts:
Theatre ones, and
TV ones. (I've never done anything for TV, and I figure it'd be a bit different since it'd just be episode-based and not messing with established scenery and such. Could be fun!) Doesn't have to be limited to those two places, but it has to be a script I can read.
So thank you for any help at all you can offer, as well as the support because this has to be insane.
