There's an app to make your own ringtones. It's called RMaker.

Actually, you know, I wasn't thinking about this when you mentioned it on plurk, but there's a really easy way to make your own ringtones. All you have to do is put the ringtone into iTunes, convert it to .m4a (Settings, General, "When you insert a CD..." Import Settings, AAC Encoder). After that right-click the file in iTunes and choose to "Show Original File," then change the file extension to .m4r instead.

Then you drag it back into iTunes and voila, it pops up under Ringtones!
