So, the past...oh, twelve hours now (give or take a bit of time to eat and stuff), I've been working on a prop for a Halloween costume. Not mine, mind you. I'll be donning my Ten scarf and walking around with my sonic screwdriver in my purse. It was for my father, actually!

And he?

Is going to dress up as this guy:

Yes, I'll be curious to see how he pulls off the no-nose thing, too.

But! He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named (and that's terribly annoying to type), isn't, well, him, without a wand. Sadly, this wand isn't made of yew with a phoenix feather as a core (and it sure as hell isn't the Elder wand), but it's made of Fimo clay with a chopstick and metal wire as a support core instead. I will say that finding pictures of all sides of the wand--and most importantly, ones that agreed with each other--was a bit of a pain. And really, how this one was supposed to be the one he had in Hogwart sand no one sussed onto the fact that his wand made him look pretty damn evil, I have no idea. But anyway! This is the one I wound up going with:

Fun, huh? Well! I wound up rolling out a bit of clay, wrapping it around the chopstick (which was about ten inches long when I wanted to make it a full 14 like the movie prop), and smoothed it out so it was nice and thin, but not so much that I made it taper as much as the chopstick itself. It wasn't ever going to be as thin as the one in the picture, but I wanted to make it proportionate enough.

I think I did a pretty decent job with it. It's not exactly perfect as copies go; the bony bit at the end is a bit longer so it could be comfortably held. Also, I could never quite get enough agreeing multi-views of the wand, so...I had to guess what the end truly looked like. I gave it three claw bits. Never could quite see the middle one all that well, so it might not actually be there >.>; Oops if it's not.

And the paint job exaggerates the cracks a bit so it can be seen from a distance. My theatre painting skills came back, and that's what we did. Painted things so they can be seen from the front row all the way to the back. So, um, I think it doesn't look as good up close, but here's the finished product. (I might have a couple blurry in-progress pics on my camera, but it's been acting up. I stole my brother's to take these.)

And the wand in someone's hand! Or rather mine. Don't mind the bad state of my nail polish.

So yes, that was what I did all day. I'm quite happy with how it turned out! Even had some feline help in the form of a couple cats sitting all around me while I was making it--and them keeping my seat warm whenever I got up. >.>;
