Live on CNN--Inauguration Coverage

Jan 20, 2009 11:30

Wow...how incredible is that? All those people gathered in DC for the inauguration... That's nuts. Simply nuts.

And I can't help thinking how much I'd love to be out there with them, chanting Obama's name and hearing that ceaseless band music and freezing my butt off. The crowds go so, so far back, all the way down the National Mall to the Lincoln monument. I wouldn't doubt if the crowds went even further back.

I was there with my AP Gov't class back in 2001 for the first inauguration of GW Bush--even have a keychain commemorating the event. Don't really remember much from it, like I don't remember hearing his speech all that well. We had protesters near where we were. If I remember correctly, it was about preventing the drilling in Alaska; there was even a guy in a polar bear suit.

But now that I think about and I'm watching the streaming coverage of the ceremony...I'd rather be right here. Else how could I see what's going on? Certainly wouldn't be seeing the processions of the important people in our country. Might hear it, or see it on one of the dozens of jumbo-trons they've set up. It's all just...so damn cool. (I also can't help wondering how they're managing to fit so many people up there on that platform...)

Wow. It's just that cool. There really are no other words for it.

Sorry, I'm just a bit incoherent right now ^^;

EDIT: "Air and Simple Gifts" by John Williams. John freaking Williams. With Yo Yo Ma and Itzakh Perlman and two other musicians I can't remember the names of. Just wow. First Aretha now this!

politics, day for the history books, historical events, in awe
