I don't normally watch awards shows, ever. They're unnecessarily long, are inundated with bad skits and musical numbers (ahem, unnecessarily long), and more often than not showcase actors/movies I don't really care for. I'm a horror girl, through and through. Horror doesn't really exist to the Academy. Sure, there have been a few nods here and there. One of my all time favourite films, The Omen, won an Oscar for best music in 1977.
Before I get off track on some tangent, I'll make my point. I sat through most of the Oscars, Ru Paul's Drag Race was over and there was really nothing better on TV. I sat through the musical numbers, the not so witty jokes & scripted banter. I honestly don't think I saw any of the films nominated, so it was all a little lost on me. But! It was all worth it. And I'll tell you why.
During their rememberance montage of the film elite who have passed away over the course of 2008, they tossed a nod to our beloved Maila Nurmi. And as a beautiful picture of Vampira, the original glamour ghoul, crossed the screen it was all worth watching.
So thanks to the Oscars for remembering Vampira. Now be a dear and give us horror freaks a few more Oscars!
