FAQ

This is a list of questions I get asked a lot, in real life and online. This may be updated occasionally, if people have more questions to ask me. No shit, people, these are questions I’m actually asked.

1: What is your real name?

If we become close enough, then I’ll tell you.

2: What is your favourite fandom and ship?

Currently it is House MD, although before that it was Buffy. There was no fandom before Buffy. I started watching when I was twelve, and until August 2009, that was my fandom.

My main ships are, of course, hilson and spuffy, but I will occasionally dabble in others.

3: What is your favourite fic?

This is a difficult question, because I love most of my fics and there are specific aspects to each of them I like. For instance, my favourite kiss I’ve written is from Of Mothers and Wire Hangers, and my favourite friendship would be Spectrum, but I guess if I had to choose it would be Paper Faces on Parade with A New Divide coming in a close second.

4: What is your least favourite fic?

Oh, Christ. The Mistake of Benevolence. I have posted a rant about it, if you’re interested.

Summary: Danielle Kensith, an obnoxious Slytherin with red hair and green eyes, wonders why her head of house seems to hate her. And why does he always stare at her like that? A story about growing up, first love, and all the things in between.

Snape/OC.

(Yes, she is meant to be obnoxious and immature. That is not why I dislike the story.)

5: Why don’t you use betas?

I use a . . . beta, but that word really doesn't describe the wonderousness and awesomeness of dissonata (theletterv on ff.net) as he is my other half, practically. Were it not for some convincing photos (one involving riding a dragon) I would think he was my Tyler Durden.

Here’s the thing--these stories are my fics. As in mine. As in I don’t like people I’ve never met in real life changing the voice, the dialogue, mucking around in my stuff . . . That may come off as harsh, but I’ve had way too many bad experiences with betas. I’ve had people steal my fics, never get back to me, completely ruin characters, say they understand basic grammar and yet continually correct “between you and me” into “between you and I” and other such things, or correct all of the dialogue to have computer manual grammar so even if it is correct nobody sounds like themselves . . .

If I were to ever publish an original story, I would send it to an editor whose job it was to edit things. That is because editing is that person’s job, as publishing my story would be mine. Why only in reality? Truth is, you may say you’re a twenty-seven year old English major who works in a publishing house in real life . . . But in all honesty, I’m actually Joss Whedon.

See what I did there?

6: So, are you a slasher ‘cause you post a lot of hilson . . . ?

No, I’m not a slasher or a hetter or any sort of orientation-based shipper. I believe in shipping characters who I honestly believe have chemistry regardless of gender, although I do tend to ship het couples because a) most fictional characters have more chemistry with the opposite gender and b) oftentimes (and this may offend some of you) a lot of “slashers” (and I actually find that term offensive--like the word jock versus the word athlete; the former has a negative connotation to me) pair up two good-looking men, not based on chemistry, but on the level of attractiveness, then there is always a set feminine/masculine relationship, as if forcing stereotypical heterosexual aspects on a homosexual couple--ie, as if saying the only reason two men or women would ever be able to last would be if one of them acted like the opposite gender to the point where the gay relationship is more stereotypically het than the heterosexual relationships.

However, if it is in-character for one of the men to be incredibly feminine, then I see no problem with that.

I also have a problem with heterosexual ships that only exist purely based on “oh, those two actors are hot” as well or forcing the same stereotypes on characters who are not that way.

In short, in order for me to like a ship, I have to see it as having chemistry in the actual canon AND the pairing of them has to seem IC. Het or slash.

Before you all bitch at me for coming off as homophobic, my best friend is gay and I’m bisexual.

7: When was the first time you had sex?

I’m a virgin.

8: How old are you?

Older than I look.

9: Where do you post your fanfic?

Grabbing His Cane and fanfiction.net. My penname on ff.net is Cardio Necrosis.

10: How may I contact you?

My twitter name is vampmissedith.

You can send me a private message on LJ or on ff.net.

My main email address is vampmissedith@yahoo.com but I share that with my best friend as well, so if you want to add me on Facebook, you’ll have to use welcome_to_primetime@hotmail.com seeing as apparently you cannot have two accounts with the same email there. Just explain how I know you in a message if you want me to friend you because I do not add people blindly.
