I'll be Djing for the VERY FIRST TIME this saturday at Midnight in DC. I'd love to see any of you out and dancing!!!
This Saturday, Midnight is celebrating the official repeal, just over 77 years ago, of the foolish Prohibition Amendment to the Constitution. We've booked DJs JavieR, SailorGloom, and Vampkat. There'll also be a contest with a cash prize, vending by artist Angela Rose of Necropolis Studios, additional drink deals, ...free cake to celebrate the "birthday" of the 21st Amendment, and more!
IN THE DJ BOOTH
You'll want to dance all night--or at least until gov't agents make us close up shop at 3:00 a.m.--to the contemporary (not Prohibition era) music our DJ trio will be spinning. Joining the always popular Midnight resident DJ JavieR (
http://members.cox.net/hislordshipjavier) in the booth will be these guests:
* SailorGloom is one of the club's roster of "regular guest" DJs. Internationally known, he's held residencies in Germany, Hawaii, and California. He has also spun on Goth Cruise IV, at Convergence twice, three times at the DEFCON gatherings in Las Vegas, and at numerous clubs around the world as a guest. Look for sets that show off his mastery of goth, darkwave, EBM, industrial, synthpop, and new wave.
* Vampkat is one of the new generation of gothic/industrial scene DJs that Midnight has helped train (special thanks to Cheetahdave, Engel, etc.!) and introduce to the local scene. Although she's done some early sets in recent weeks, this is her official debut. Always one of Midnight's most enthusiastic dancers, she's request friendly and can be expected to play some of your favorite club hits.
DRINK SPECIALS!
What would a Prohibition Repeal Party be without drink specials?! All of last week's deals (see below) are again in effect, plus we've added something a lot better than "bathtub gin"--Bombay Sapphire
cocktails for $5.00 plus tax from 10:00 to close.
There'll be the usual two-for-one beverage special between 9:00 and 10:00 p.m. Purchase one drink during that hour for full price, and you're entitled to a second of the same any time prior to last call (around 2:45 a.m.) for free. (Check with your bartender, Ranka, for the few exceptions.) Then, starting at 10:00, look for these deals to go into effect:
* $5.00 + tax -- all draft beers, both imported & domestic (17 oz.!)
* $5.00 + tax -- Jagermeister shots
* $6.00 + tax -- Jager bombs
* $6.00 + tax -- Jose Cuervo shots
* $6.00 + tax -- Blue Hawaiians
* $6.00 + tax -- amaretto sours
* $3.00 + tax -- Red Bull cans
* $2.00 + tax -- the house specialty, the "black death shooter"
BTW, with the holidays coming up, we'll be soliciting donations (large or small) toward a gift for the bartenders. Please contribute what you can.
Of course, if you grow hungry we have a deal for you as well. The Meeting Place serves food until around 1:30 a.m., and you're entitled to a 20% discount off the list price if you select something from the appetizer menu (fried shrimp, nachos, fries, chicken fingers, etc.).
IN THE VENDOR CORNER
Between rounds of dancing, drinking, and munching, be sure to stop by the booth of this week's vendor, artist Angela Rose of Necropolis Studios (
http://www.necropolisstudios.net/). She specializes in marvelously done ceramic sculpture and jewelry pieces with fantasy and wildlife themes--perfect presents for your favorite gothic boi or ghoul.
PROHIBITION-THEMED CASH CONTEST!
Look for one of our "Repeal" wall signs as soon as you arrive. The first guest to tell Scott the names of the well-known Prohibition era politicians shown on it wins $25.00 cash.
NATURALLY THERE'S MORE...
* ENTER THE DRAWING -- Fill out one of the drawing slips on our literature table when you arrive, then deposit it in the nearby cauldron. At or shortly after 12:00, our DJs will pick the winners of recent CDs from Zombie Girl and Red This Ever, a DVD, a copy of CULTURE ASYLUM magazine (hot!), and a $10.00 food coupon. Good luck!
* FREE CAKE -- Around the same time as the drawing we'll be serving cake to celebrate the "b'day" of the 21st Amendment--the one that repealed Prohibition. Best wishes also to Rain, Thomas Mulvey, Brooke, Chrissy, Ryan, Christian, Angel, Sean, Christie, Harlequin, Doug, Chewka, Joel (turning 5!), Kevin, Michele, and Brenda!
* ADMISSION DEALS -- You don't need to memorize a secret knock or whisper "Joe Kennedy sent me!" to get into Midnight. Just pay your $5.00--unless you take advantage of one of the discount deals, of course. Our first dozen guests in line at opening always enter free, as does the winner of our "Question of the Week" contest. It's posted
late Thursday evenings on the LJ (
http://www.livejournal.com/community/dcmidnight). Plus, if you show your current high school (must be 18) or college (includes staff) ID at the cash table, you'll pay just $3.00.
Come celebrate the anniversary of the return of legal hooch to America, hanging out with all your friends at the D.C. party that always gives you more for less money!
