Title: Read Me
Fandom: Leverage
Rating: PG-13/maybe light R
Warnings: femslash, implied sex
Characters/Pairings: Parker/Sophie
Disclaimer: There is a universe where I own these two… but it isn’t this one. :(
Feedback: Is so much love.
Summary: Children can lie outright… they just can’t tell what truths they should withhold.
Notes: Sadly, this is not the next installment of “Rogue”. Hopefully I’ll get back to that soon. But it’s something! This hit me last night and was just so easy to write that I decided to get it out.

…I’m not happy with the ending. Meaning, I don’t think there is one. But I don’t know how else to end it. *is sad*

“Read me.”

Sophie looked up from her magazine at the blond enigma stretched out at the foot of her bed and raised an eyebrow. “What?”

“Read me. Tell me something about me you shouldn’t know.” Parker raised an eyebrow back at her, challenging.

Sophie set aside her magazine, tilting her head and tapping Parker’s head with a toe while she thought. “You’re scared,” she said.

“Am not!” Parker sat straight up, glaring.

Sophie smiled sadly. “You told us you were when you described Luka. You said he held the food like he was afraid someone would take it away, remember? You’re used to people taking things away. You’re afraid someone is going to take this away, and this is the only real family you’ve ever know, just like the rest of us.”

Parker’s glare would have sent mountains scurrying for cover. Sophie just settled a calmly smiling mask over her features. “I’m not afraid,” the thief insisted. “Try again.”

You’re even more afraid now, Sophie thought, but she complied. “You have the strangest mix of developmental levels I’ve ever seen,” she said, sitting forward. “Physically, you’re an adult. Intellectually, you’re an adult. Emotionally, you’re about a teenager, and a little autistic-no, really,” she raised a hand to forestall Parker’s argument. “Obsessive interest in few subjects is a symptom of an autism spectrum disorder. It surprised me too.” She leaned forward until she had to balance herself on her hands. “Socially, you’re a child, especially in one very important respect.” Parker raised her eyebrow for Sophie to continue. “You never learned to lie,” Sophie explained, reaching a hand forward to brush Parker’s hair back from her eyes.

“I can lie!” Parker protested indignantly. “I played an FBI agent, remember?”

“That’s not what I meant,” Sophie shook her head. “Children can lie outright, on occasion. What they can’t do is discern what truths they should withhold.” She smiled, scooting forward to press her lips against Parker’s. “Like how they can’t tell whether it’s appropriate,” she explained between kisses, “to tell their boss’s potential girlfriend that if she was their love interest, they’d already have made a move.” Her eyes glittered. “And how they definitely can’t be sure if it’s all right to kiss said woman afterwards.”

Parker giggled and hooked her arms around Sophie’s waist, pulling the grifter down to her so they were pressed up against each other. “Oh, that,” she agreed, and rolled Sophie over so Parker was on top again.
