Get What you Deserve

Hello again in the name of Clapton, Santana, and Bo Diddley. Although the Church of Rock and Roll strives to be all-inclusive, since music after all cannot belong just to one kind of people, I can understand how my preaching seems to follow a more Christian ethic, and might seem out of place to others. Knowing this, I'd like to read now a rather brief piece, Karma, from the present-day group Diffuser.

[ahem]

Starting from the end,
the worst is the best thing that I ever knew.
Moses is my friend,
since I'm playing second fiddle in the duet
Paying for what I am regretting:

Sometimes you get what you want,
sometimes you get what you need,
you're always gonna get what you deserve.
It's all about what you want
if you can get what you need.
You're always gonna get what...

Elvis isn't dead,
he's just on vacation with Jim Morrison.
Sold my sould again,
while I was whistling dixie in a panic,
Beelzebub was clapping frantically:

Sometimes you get what you want,
sometimes you get what you need,
you're always gonna get what you deserve.
It's all about what you want
If you can get what you need
You're always gonna get what!

The idea of Karma is an absolutely valuable one. We should all remember that when we allow negative energies to control us, the damage done reaches far beyond what we can merely see. In a world of near-infinite possibilities, who knows what consequences and repercussions might be avoided if we simply act nicer to those around us.

While it is certain that there are many people, the starving and the destitute, the orphaned and the unloved, who never seem to get what they deserve, it should be remembered that the rewards [and punishment!] for our actions are not manifest in this world. The physical world is ruled by man, and this is the reason why nothing in this life is fair, as the chorus references in saying sometimes you get what you want, and sometimes you get what you need. Too many forget to be kinder to their less fortunate neighbors here on earth.

And remember well that this idea of Karma is not just a thing to be expected and held upon others. You, too, are just as much a part of this world as anyone else, and are fully accountable for all your actions. We are all bound to the laws of this world and the next, therefore think long and hard before you act.

But, likewise, do not allow guilt and shame to overpower you after moments of weakness. We are but human after all, therefore do not seek to be anything but human. Perfection is not expected of us, and so do not strain yourself in the achieving of it. Try instead to act with mere human decency and courtesy.

I leave you now, go in peace then, and remember that balance rather than saintliness would better suit your actions.

Amen.
