not in the sea

“Abby! Tell me what you got!”, Gibbs stormed into the lab. “Nice to see you, too, Gibbsman. I analysed a sample of the water Ducky found in this poor guy’s lungs and I found traces of different plants and organisms, but what I did not find is even more interesting.” “Abby.”, her boss reminded her impatiently. “Okay, okay, the guy did not drown in the sea, but I suppose you already know that because Ducky certainly told you that saltwater would have collected in the lungs in a bigger amount and he only found a little water. That is because the concentration of-“ “Abbs! What do you got, damn it?”, Gibbs yelled. “Oh, sorry, well I’m running the sample through the database, I’m checking all lakes, rivers, canals and every garden pond that’s listed in it and, drum roll please.”, she looked at him expectantly. “But it won’t beep if it doesn’t get a drum roll, Gibbs!”, Abby defended herself and her computer. While Gibbs simply rolled his eyes angrily Tim smiled and did her the favour of giving her a short drum roll.
Beep beep beep beep. “See?”, the forensic specialist stared at her boss smart-alecky with satisfaction tingeing her voice, then nodded at Tim thankfully. “The water from his lungs comes from the Constitution Gardens Ponds in West Potomac Park, the water I extracted from his clothes was a mixture of this, the seawater he was dumped in, obviously from a canal right next to Georgetown Park, and the water from the beach you found him at. Wow. So he drowned right between all those memorials? Strange.”
“McGee!”, Gibbs turned to bark at the other person in the lab. “Did you get something of his pen or cell phone?” “Stick, um, USB-Stick, boss, but ye-“ “Do have you have something or do you not? Damn it what’s wrong with everybody today?!” Tim swallowed but told Gibbs what he had found after restoring the nearly destroyed data from the completely wet volume. “Nothing interesting from the cell phone so far, sorry boss.”
They could only watch him from behind as Gibbs stormed out of the lab without a word, and both sighed. “Man, he’s in a bad mood today, huh?”, Abby rolled her eyes. “U-huh.”, Tim nodded. “I hope he’s in a better mood when he finds out about us.” Abby smiled and gently hugged her boyfriend from behind. “Don’t worry.”, she softly kissed his neck and stroked his chest and arm, “He couldn’t be mad at me, or us, anyway. I mean really mad.” Tim smiled softly and turned around with his chair to drag her onto his lap and hold her. “I hope so… I really hope so.”, he sighed, looked into her eyes and kissed her gently, enjoying how she wrapped her arms around him. “He can’t, Timmy. And you know why? Because I love you. I mean it’s real, not just a short relationship or phase, we’ve known each other for so long now and he sees how we can still work together, even with being in love with each other… It wouldn’t be fair, okay? And you know Gibbs is a fair person. And he loves us in a way, doesn’t he?”, she snuggled up against him, obviously having to encourage herself with her own words. “Ssh… it’s okay, Abbs. I love you too and I won’t let anything or anyone come between us, okay? I’m sure Gibbs will be okay with us if he’s not as pissed as he is right now. Actually I think that’s all I ask for, he has to be high on caffeine and in a better mood.”, he smiled and kissed her again, gently fondling Abby’s cheek to cheer her up again.
