Dark Angel
Duvessa watched the icy waves break on the cliffs below. She shivers softly. It was a dreary overcast day and the morning fog had yet to lift. A cool breeze blew over her body sending shivers up and down her spine. An icy hand gripped her shoulder.
Duvessa sat straight up in bed startled and in a cold sweat. She shook her head softly and stopped a moment to try and get a grasp on her whereabouts. She looked over to her open window and realized that she was safe at home in her own bed. She thought "that's funny I thought I closed". Ever so slowly she crept out of bed... She shut the window with a slam half startling her self to death by the noise. Quickly she crawled back in bed. Her eyes began to grow heavy as sleep gently embraced her.
The sound of the waves below the cliffs where she sat where usually a comfort; but on this morning they where almost freighting. It reminded her of the crash or dishes being broke hard and sharp. "nonsense" she said to her self. "It must just be the night air and moon light playing tricks on me" she muttered. "but wait wasn't it just day?" this thought frightened her. "am I losing my mind? Wasn't it early morning and the fog had yet to lift?" She asks herself. "..and what is that noise" a faint fluttering sound buzzed in her ear. Like bats emerging from there cave for the night's flight. Softly she folds her arms about her to try and keep a warm. The same cool wind as before began to blow. Duvessa felt a wave of fear engulf her.
The stone floor seemed to slam it's self against her. Duvessa opened her eyes widely but could see nothing. She felt around in the dark for some clue as to where she was and what had happened. " Am I asleep is this some short of bad dream? where am I how did I get here?" she whispered. "Be quite" A dry scratchy voice groaned. A match was lit. Duvessa eyes widened to her horror before stands the decaying decrepit bodies of a room full of women. The skin pulled away from there lips to show there rotten blackened teeth. Some still had strands of stringy hair that still held the resemblance of the color it must have once been. Duvessa's heart began to thunder. The closest woman to her the very same who had whispered the words of warning reached out a scaly hand to grab Duvessa's arm. Duvessa let out a blood curtailing scream. With the light of the match slowly fading she managed to make out door on the farthest away wall. Pushing her way threw the decayed women the smell almost unbearable she makes her way to the door a disappeared down the dark hall. "no not that way!" one of them yelled in terror. Quickly they do the best that they can to limp and hobble after her with what remaining limps they had that worked.
Duvessa runs for what seems like for ever down the black hall way bits of moonlight shine in threw the cracks. Her heart pounding in her ears and her side in pain. Slowly see nears a lit balcony. She can make out a figure before her blurred at first...It's a tall man his dark hair blowing in the wind. His cloak hangs heavy on his shoulders. His back is to her. "Please, you must help me! There are creatures here dark and evil demons! they are chasing me! Please! Please!" Duvessa screams with panic as she clutches his cloak. She half hides her face as one of the women steep out of the shadows. "no!" the decayed woman shrieks. The dark man slowly looks over his shoulder at the woman and like beaten dogs they cower back into the shadows. Gently he takes Duvessa's had in his own. "Do not be afraid you are save with me. I will help you" He says calmly. Duvessa smiles him as if almost in a trance. His eyes where so deep and penetrating they seemed to speak to her soul. A small smile parts his lips. Ever so lightly he takes her by the arm and leads her back down the hall way and threw many corridors and chambers to the heart of the castle. Duvessa stumbles blindly in the dark as he leads her along. The groan of a great wooden door is heard threw the darkness as it opened before them. The tiny twinkling of candle light piers threw the darkness. They enter what must have once been a great cathedral, but now all the benches and holy items where no wear to be found. Duvessa is startled as the wood and iron gated slam close behind her. Little did she know that those woman that she had feared so where her only hope. They like herself where past beauties ,stolen in the night by the dark angel. Duvessa screamed as the cloak fell away and the leathery wings of the death angle spread to there full length. His arms wrap tightly around her...
