"My name is Amanda and I am a butt." --Amanda

You all heard her.

So I've been tagged. I must name 6 songs that are important to me and explain why, and then "tag" 6 more people. Since I'm so annoyingly proud of my music that I would describe and share it with everyone just because it rules so much, I will do this. Let's do this... (Please note: my music collection is ginormous. There are more than 6 songs that mean alot to me, so this is going to be quite a challenge)

1.) Theatre of Tragedy - "A Distance There Is." First of all, this is one of the first doomy, gothic metal bands that I had ever listened to and came to love. This long soliloquy consists of the sound of rain falling, a piano, a cello soloist, and a gorgeous soprano vocalist. Every note I can feel, and the song has the power to evoke tears, especially when one reads the lyrics. The use of archaic language is a staple of Theatre of Tragedy, and it only adds to the style. The whole song, from what I have inferred, is about a flawed, confused relationship. The lines "I will not drink thine vintage wine, my dear," and "After all these years thou hast let me down in the emotional depths / All the beautiful moments shared, deliberately pushed aside..." get to me especially. The interaction of the piano and the singer is seamless, and the cello adds an emotional edge that you'll never find in any shitty emo song. This is a song to carry me through troubled times, and a reminder of every painful and wonderful moment I shared with all of the women I have been with. This is amongst the most beautiful piano pieces out there, and I reccomend it to all piano lovers.

2. Symphony X - "Egypt." Say nothing about the fact that I have a crush on most things Egyptian. This is a fine example of progressive metal - probably one of the best. Sir Russel Allen's vocals are second to few, as he plunges right into this dark, mysterious, seven minute masterpiece. Allen plays the roles of a narrator, a soon-to-be-corrupted protagonist, and the voice of an ancient, deceptive evil. The hypnotic guitars interact with the keyboard to create the image of a long forgotten Egyptian labyrinth, and throughout the song there is a profound sense of wickedness. This song means alot to me because it has never gotten old, and still uplifts me with its evil. My adrenaline always starts pumping at "RISE, MY MINIONS! FROM WITHIN THE DEEP ABYSS!" sung so aptly and sinister by Allen. The incredibly piano solo at the end of the song is perfect. I love it most when a song tells a story, and this does exactly that.

Moonspell - "Second Skin." "Creep me into your second skin...and teach me everything..." Moonspell fucking rules. Rarely do you get a song as perfect as this one. For both sexual and musical reasons, I adore this song. Very bass driven, dark, deep, poetic vocals with an occasional scream, groovy guitars, and rolling drums. It's like everything I love about music rolled into one. "Somewhere between an underrated angel / all those citizens marked with an 'X-sex'" and "You are one more son of God, you could never be wrong / But aren't we all?" SUCH WONDERFUL LYRICS. Okay, I'm done extolling this one.

Moonspell - "Can't Bee." Is it surprising that I list two Moonspell songs? Of course not. This song goes out to all of those I have removed from my life, particularly those who were especially close to me at one point. In fact, this song is so important that I am going to list the lyrics right here and now:

Can't bee your lover
Can't bee that loveless
Can't bee that healing rope, or anything
Can't bee without you, the one or the other
Can't even bee what you are for me

Can't even bee your final solution
I hope I was your final pollution

Can't bee your motion
Can't bee that frozen
Can't bee those limbs you miss, or everything
Can't bee the apocalypse, one or the other
Can't live your life for you and for me

Can't even bee your final polution

I wish I was the heartbeat of your destruction

Can't bee like you
Can't bee that hateful
Can't bee that cross to bridge, or just that thing
Can't bee the insect stroke, the distracted love
Don't dare to bee what you are for me

Can't even bee your absolution
I pace at the rhythm of your consumption

Awesome, no? Now go get the song! Moving on...

4. James Labrie - "Smashed." Another blend of musical perfection. James Labrie (of Dream Theater) creates a heartfelt, meaningful song about the painful realities of life and the fading memories that come along with growing up. "Buildings fell / Stealing people's dreams: a way of life / ...guess we don't fit / fit the plan." This song is very important to me because I directly relate to it, every part of it. I feel as though it describes my life as it is today. "The man I have become is not walking away / He is the man I will raise, / and that makes the man that you see." I know it's silly and stupid, but I do derive great meaning from this song, and it has been helping me through these hard times.

5. Greg Graffin - "Cease." The singer of the punk band, Bad Religion, writes some brilliant music. His solo project, American Lesion, was proof of just how brilliant he is. This song is the piano/vocal version of a punk song that he had written on the album "The Gray Race." I can't even begin to describe how much this song has meant to me over the years. You all have to hear it. The best part is that the whole thing is in my vocal range, so I can sing along! yay!

6. Isis - "Altered Course." Great for time travel AND getting to sleep. Enough said.

This has turned out to be painful, because there are at least 20 others songs that mean a great deal to me. Amanda made me choose between them. I say well all drop anvils on her face.

Tagging! Bullhead242, Frosty_Smash, AdmiralWilliams, Nasagirl, CelticBloodNigh, and Aweepingsong
