After a whirlwind few days in Devon we are back. Brief summary:
Friday 27th July
Drove to Devon and were on our way to Brixham when a recent car problem started to get worse. I decided that I wanted to get the car to a barrage first thing in the morning and didn’t want to do that in Brixham in case they needed to keep it in. So, we headed back to Exeter and stayed with Dad - he was gad of early arrival and the weather was pretty poor anyway.
Saturday 28th July
Took the car to Kwik Fit first thing and they diagnosed the problem straight away - a massive hole in the tread of the rear right tyre - the guy said it was ready to explode at any point and the 6 hours of motorway driving we’d done the day before was probably not wise and we were very lucky. I will be having words with the garage where the car was serviced just 2 weeks earlier!
After that was sorted we had lunch with Dad and then drove to Dawlish Warren for Denise’s grandparents 60th wedding anniversary. Had a good time and then at midnight I got my presents, from Denise I got 3 Bon Jovi DVDs, 4 Preacher graphic novels, 3 Star Wars graphic novels, a Bon Jovi personalised guitar strap, a scrap booking kit and she’d already given me a Bon Jovi framed picture the day before we left.
Sunday 29th July
My birthday! Had a birthday lunch at the hotel we were staying in and then drove back to Exeter to Mum and Roger’s house. Went to The Passage House in Topsham in the evening for a nice meal.
Monday 30th July
In to town for birthday shopping courtesy of Mum - Denise got a load of clothes and I got an Ibanez RG350DX which I am most delighted with, to say the least!
In the evening we went to Coheba and a had a really nice Spanish Tapas. After a few drinks it was home and to bed.
Tuesday 31st July
Paignton Zoo - one of our favourite places to go and I saw my favourite the Bisons, with their rapidly growing calf. The weather, as it had been since Friday, was beautiful. We had a drink and ice cream back in Exeter by the Quay and then in the evening we went to Saffron, an award winning curry restaurant in Topsham. It was excellent and for the first time I had a Chicken Tava which was fab.
Wednesday 1st August
Back to Dad’s and after a leisurely morning we went to Sidmouth in the afternoon. Denise and I went for a nice walk while Sam and Izzy played in the sea. In the evening we watched The DaVinci Code which unsurprisingly wasn’t a patch on the book.
Thursday 2nd August
We were due to stay another day in Exeter but my back has been giving me problems so we decided to come back today so I can get an appointment with the doc tomorrow morning. So, that brings us to there here and now - back home in Hitchin :D Lots of photos to come…

We are going to cancel Sky TV - we can save £50 a month and with a Freeview digital recording set-top box we can get most channels we want with recording facilities for a one off £100 payment. I can download anything else I want. With us wanting to start a family we need to start saving and Sky TV just isn’t necessary any more. It will also take away temptation to watch TV when there are better things we can be doing with our time.
