Back to the mansion

I feel a little lighter tonight, after talking to Faith. I didn't know that she'd been hanging onto as much guilt as I was, over the way we fell apart. But she seems good, seems like she's healing. I have hope that maybe, just maybe we can be friends--I don't really expect anything more than that. If she's finding happiness with Oz, so be it. She ( Read more... )

I walk through the garden. Looks like someone's been digging in the dirt, it's recently been turned. The house seems to be dark. Damn, I wish Cordy had shown up to introduce us. I tuck the doll in my arm and poke my head into the parlor. "Hello, Cordy? London? Anyone home?"

I turn around. The girl's really quiet, I hadn't heard her at all. I take one tentative step toward her.

"I'm Angel, and I'm a friend of Cordy's, and Buffy's, too. Are you London?" I ask, keeping my voice calm, soothing. She's an unknown quantity. "I brought you a...hose-warming present. Well, actually two, I wasn't sure what you'd like." I hold the dolls out to her. Amidala's still in the box, I guess I should have taken her out.

I move to sit on a bench under an ornamental tree. "And before that, you met Buffy and Cordy in London?" In Bedlam, that had to have been unpleasant for all of them. I shudder, thinking of what we used to go witness for entertainment. "Bet you're glad to be ut of there," I murmur.

Angel sighed, and put an arm around her. "I try to be. I wasn't always, though. I'm a vampire, like you." I glance at her from the corner of my eyes. "Buffy said you helped her fight demons at the prom."

Yeah, no electricity, therefore no refrigeration. The house was wired, but she wasn't exactly living there legally. I suppose we could set up a generator for her. I nod. "I'll talk to Buffy about it, we might be able to fix you up with some power. Get you a fridge so you can have ice cream and keep your blood fresh. A few lamps, maybe." Definitely safer than candlelight. Jeez, why hadn't I thought of it when I was staying here?

I laugh, softly. "We'll see what we can find. Maybe try secondhand shops," I suggest. I think I know the kind she means, the beaded lamps of a bygone era. I'd always liked those, the way they sparkled. Maybe her Ememem lady had had them.

"Yeah, but I've been around a really long time, I know how to avoid the light," I tell her. "Well over two hundred years, and it hasn't gotten me yet."

When she mentions flowers, I glance to the disturbed earth and smile. It's going to be a while before they pop up, I think. "I'll be here. I'll make some phone calls, see what we can do about getting you some electricty."

I have to laugh again. She really is a sweet little thing. "Yes, all the ice cream you want, London." I look at the little bed she planted. Who knows, maybe they'll pop up? "And yes, maybe there'll be flowers. I'll just go get my bag."
