I am working on the next part of the Japan diary - it's just finding the time! I have alot of spinning plates right now.
One of those plates that I am spinning is writing articles for Cracked.com. It's a website that, amongst other things, is a bit like QI in that they publish 'list articles' that are interesting but with a comedy bent. I have been an avid reader for some time now, but finally clicked on the "Write For Us" link earlier this year. They have a good system whereby you pitch article ideas, get editor feedback on whether they like the idea or not (and if not, they always say why not, which helps you learn from each rejection). If they like the idea after you've polished it some more then they will accept it and give you two weeks to do a full write up. Once submitted you will get paid 50 dollars for every article they publish for the first five articles, which then goes up to 150 dollars for each article past the fifth one.
I've been knocking various pitches about and I have one that is on the verge of being accepted, I just need one more entry in the article that the editors like. However, I did get one the whole way through the process and published. And somehow I forgot to say so here and link up to it. D'oh!
So here is a link my article that I wrote and got paid for the privilage. It's called
7 Scientific Reasons You'll Turn Out Just Like Your Parents, I hope you enjoy it my loyal three readers.
