Well what a tiring weekend! The engagement party went very well. I don't think anything went wrong really. We said 5pm for people to turn up and they kept arriving up to about 5:45. This gave us the opportunity to introduce the people who hadn't met and mingle around. Food served at 6:15, and then skittles game commences.
I found it easier to just stay at the top of the skittles, keep score, shout out whose turn it was and reset after each go. We were going to have three games, but the first game took a long time so I thought best to stop there. Laura's idea to put a quiz on every table was an inspired one because it gave people something to do throughout the night, especially if they were sitting with people they didn't know. Rita (who I work with) sat with my mum and grandma, and they all seemed to get on well with it. Everyone was very friendly and all seemed to have a good time so far as I can tell. Lovely!
Christening on Sunday for Grace. We got there on time more or less after an initial delay. Luckily I remembered that there is a car park directly opposite the church which was good as Laura's ankles was in pain. Service was a nice one and the day was gorgeous. After that we went to the pub for the buffet but both Laura and I were getting tired I think. It's certainly weird to go from an event that you have spent ages planning and which revolves around you, to another event where it all revolves around someone else. You go from the centre of attention to people who get brief visits! We stayed a while and then went back to Laura's so we could collapse on the sofa.
This morning I now have all the EA Active bits and bobs after they were located at Lauras and so I plan to do half an hour at least of that every day. In the morning on the days I don't run and after work on the days I do. It's got a 30 day challange thing, so i'm doing that. Mum mentioned several times and with strange tactlessness that I had put on weight, which was rather mean of her I thought. I'm still very unhappy with my stomach and want to lose at least a stone, hoping that it will all come from there. It's irritating when you make the effort to exercise and don't see results after a while. I must be doing something wrong. I'm trying to eat better but to be fair I don't eat very much anyway, and I don't snack either. My diet does contain bread every day and pasta once a week but it's hard to balance removing carbs, and making sure I get enough in me to fuel running.
I think I'll start buying a decent amount of simple white fish. If i get some steamed fish and vegtables down me once or twice a week, that should help. I've also started alternating my usual sandwiches for lunch with salad to try and cut down on carbs.
Go away stomach! GO AWAY!
In other news Laura and I have now set up a joint account to use as a wedding fund. All contributuons welcome! I'm finding it hard to envisage what we can and cannot do until we have all they money we are likely to get in this account, and then we can budget properly. I'll text my dad the account details, broach the subject of a contribution with my mum and ask Laura's parents to put what they can into the account, then we can start planning proper.
Laura's cat, Smudge, is not well and is not likely to live much longer. Poor thing has a liver problem and has become jaundice. She isn't in any pain and seems quite happy but the vet says she is unlikely to live more than a few more months. She isn't going to be put down as she isn't in pain, but equally Laura doesn't want to leave her in a cattary when we were to go on holiday in July. We've decided to stay at home with her instead of going on holiday and look after her.
