so far, so good
day 4 on the job... my new computer system just got set up, and it's spiff! awesome flatscreen. i'm getting used to getting up at 6:15, although it sucks that it's still dark out.
last night i went with ken to a chinese new year's banquet (his parents bought us tickets). it's not officially until feb. 18th, but i guess like xmas parties you have to book it when you can. this year is the year of the boar. it was pretty sweet! the dinner was a 10-course meal with dessert (mmm red bean soup!), including stuff like lobster, whole fish, nooodles, mushroom dishes and roasted duck. i must say, my chopstick skills are getting to be l33t :)
there were speeches, and a lion dance with music; at one point, the lion had to bite off a new year's thing hanging from the ceiling, so the guy operating the head had to sit on the other guy's shoulders. i've got to wonder how you get into doing something like that as a line of work. we all got the little red envelopes with token money distributed by the mc in a chinese opera costume, and there were door prizes, but we didn't win any (i never win anything!) i have to say though, the most unusual thing at chinese dinners is that they have karaoke... thoughout the whole dinner! ken's parents did a duet, he almost died, lol.
