It's another one of those days at amazon. I have some
Ramones on vinyl, but on CD only a couple songs on compilations. But today at
amazon I was snarfed up their Greatest Hits. Twenty tunes of seminal punk for a mere $2.99. If you don't know much about the
Ramones, let's just say punk would have never happened without them (or the NY Dolls). When everyone else was either getting into disco, mellowing out to singer-songwriters, or listening to self-indulgent prog-rock, the Ramones stripped down rock to its basic three chords and added a bit of Beach Boys/Everly Brothers vocal harmonies - all in three minutes or less. I never saw them live, but I did see
Rock and Roll High School back in 1979. Gabba-gabba-hey!
