Lest anyone think that I'm all work and no play, one of my major addictions is watching TV shows off DVD: latest feature: Smallville, season 1.
I love watching multiple episodes at a time, and in fact, finishing off that first season in four days was a relatively long process compared with the rate I've zoomed through some other series; such as Lost, season 1. Let's see; all seven seasons of Buffy, five seasons of Angel, two seasons of Dark Angel, a season (or two?) of 24, a season of Ozzie's show, hmm... all the Highlander seasons... and of course, over the years, practically every Star Trek episode ever made; plus Survivor of course. Did I even mention that I have been, and still am to a degree, a TV addict?
I like to imagine that I'm not the only one of my generation burning their life away in front of the TV tube. I probably have spend an average of two hours a day in front of movies or series off DVD now a days. I can't stand watching TV commercials though, so I don't see any of the ads, or the promos, and am a bit out of the loop when people try to reference such things. On the other hand, watching an entire TV season compressed into 15 hours sure is a joy when in need to feed an addiction.
As far as Smallville is concerned, Superman has always been a favorite, and the Flash was always my hero, so seeing Clark Kent being strong like Spidey and fast like Flash, experienceing teen-age angst, while remaining the best boy-scout on the block in face of his teen emotions; well, it's a fun time, no excuses! :-)
Someday, I'm sure I'll deeply regreat the hundreds and thousands of hours in front of the TV, but for now, it's like a bit of solace from a very upsetting reality unlike what I'd ever expected to discover.
