Property, Violence, Freedom, and the Application of Force

Property is violence.

Imagine what makes private property different from public property. It is legal to use violence to remove, or harm, someone who is on private property, simply due to their location in the world.

True Story that JUST happened to me 5 minutes ago...

I had decided to take a walk, and upon leaving the hotel, I crossed the road to what looked like a fine, natural forest. I went down the hill and discovered a locked gate... closed... 3:30 p.m. Bummer... Looks nice. I bet nobody's in there.

I climbed over the six foot gate, and walked down the crushed limestone path. Nice. Sounds of animals moving around in the distance. A squirrel jumping to a tree. A small creek down the hill, clearly having flooded, eroding high steep banks, the bridge collapsed into the shallow crevasse.

Flowers in a bright beautiful bunch; probably planted; but still and nice in the failing light of the setting sun.

Ahead, a pond, the stream now trickling and meandering through a high canopied flat. A flash of color. Chairs ahead. All lined up to face the setting sun... facing a cabin that overlooked the pond. The path touched the steps to the large wooden deck. The windows... dark.

"HEY, YOU!" angered a voice.

"Hello," I replied.

"WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE?!", forced a bearded man, standing up from a hidden chair.

"Taking a walk," I stated.

"HOW DID YOU GET IN HERE?!", insisted the man.

Pointing back up the path, I said "There is a gate up there."

"Was it open?" he shot.

"No, I climbed over," I replied.

"There are cops on patrol. You need to respect the privacy. You're lucky it was just me that spotted you." he grumped.

"This isn't a public park?" I asked.

"No, this is private property and the park closed at five. Head on back the way you came in!" he glared down at me from the porch.

I turned and walked, slightly faster now, up the way I had come. The trees weren't very beautiful anymore. The animals no longer seemed to make their nice sounds. I thought of the truth that private property is violence. It is the threat of force to cause harm or to restrict one's rights.

Freedom. What is true freedom?

Before the enclosure movements, the land was free to be traveled. Anyone; man or otherwise, could travel as they pleased; enjoying the splendor of nature. Then came agriculture; and the desire to keep out that which might eat away the hard toil of man and beast. Fences were erected, and soon the land was divided; cut up into bits and pieces... no longer one earth, one land; but a mangled set of puzzle pieces; all nicely fitted, and separated by a threat of violence. The commons disappeared; and all that remains is tiny islands in a see of cordoned off existence.

Private property is violence.

Freedom. What really is freedom?

Freedom is the mental state of being able to think any thought without restriction or guilt, and the ability to do anything that one sets to do. A free organism, like a bear in the wild, can run anywhere it wants, make noises, scratch on trees, and do absolutely anything that it is physically capable of doing.

In the United States, the Constitution takes away freedom; as all constitutions due; in hopes that civilization will live in harmony. The freedoms given up are many. The freedom to go anywhere, anytime, for any reason is gone. Ribbons of asphalt are the only ways one can get from one public place to another.

Freedom to jump, scream, yell, cry, and carry on... with verbal slurs unlike anything seen or heard; fiery words; passionate words... not protected. There is some speech that is "protected". What does that mean? That violence will be used; that force will be applied; if certain words are said in a certain order in a certain way.

Now, in the USA, we have gone so far in giving up our freedom of speech that we allow in-human corporations to abrogate our rights by passing federal legislation that would penetentiarize anyone that might speak the truth of their behaviors. Six in fact, known as the SHAC7, were recently found guilty of speaking certain words... more specifically, of doing as I am doing now, of writing certain letters, in a certain order, and publishing that for the industrialized humans and machines to see. A pattern of pixels leading to a great restriction in NOT SPEECH.

*** ANGER welling ***

Speech. Free speech. Free to make any patterns; to say any thoughts; to lie or tell the truth; to do with sound and light as one is able to do. And these people, convicted of speech that was deemed by a non-living, artificial construct to be opposed to its single minded mission of profit; will take away not the speech of these living beings; but the very freedom of motion. For a year; to a decade!

Words! Patterns of sound and light. Ideas that might cause a thought pattern in another. Inspiring some action. The purpose of communication. And we accept. It is the new way. Speech is not protected. And profits are now more important that freedom. And freedom will be taken away for speech.

This system has failed us. The framers, for all their wisdom, were unable to codify that which they believed. The years and deviations have led to a monster of our own creation that serves not the highest good, but ensures that the most unethical, uninformed, desperate, and illogical decisions will be made by a system designed to match up ANY desire with the person who would do that very thing. This system has failed. It is not based on a value system; indeed, it is based on a value-less system whose only goal is to allow desires to be fulfilled, for a price.

There is a distinction between violence and the application of force. Property destruction may not be violent. What if a car window must be smashed to save a car from sinking in a lake? In the case of saving life, and in ending suffering, the use of force is justified.

The use of force depends on the specific situation. Some uses of force are violence. Imagine a community that has only one source of water, from a very deep well. The destruction of any part of that well would cause the suffering and perhaps the death of many individuals. In that case, the use of force could be considered violence.

Zero-birth advocates...

...fail to see how being true to life; to the environment; and to sustainable values could be passed down in such a complete way that the next generation of environmental advocates would be like thousands of Julia Butterflies all working to make the world a more compassionate place. These folks are aborting our future leaders before conception. I understand the feeling that the church has when encouraging procreation. On the other hand, a zero/one/two policy would bring down the population, even with the normal rate of multiple births on the second pregnancy. I find this fatalism; and the belief that not having a child has an impact on the world, to be very disheartening due to its utter negligible impact; and in my mind, a negative impact due to the loss of a new generation of leaders. Pity.
