The Crazy -- And God's Take on It

I'm living in the crazy.

The crazy world.

The crazy people.

This crazy, crazy "reality".

Human.

I'm human just like the next human. Same number and type of chromosomes. I look more-or-less like them. I live more-or-less like them... at least some of them... in this part of the world... in this country.

Last night, while watching the TV, I stopped for a minute and looked around... Stuff, lots of stuff, all around, in a room, a very uninteresting room... What was I doing there?

Humans did not evolve inside houses. They didn't evolve in the snow. They didn't evolve to watch TV. They didn't evolve to use the computer. And yet, my life, is basically this... and I suppose it is no surprise that sometimes I just feel out of place, like something is wrong... very wrong.

My grandparents (of many generations ago) lived normal lives. They didn't live in a house. They didn't have hundreds of pounds of stuff. They didn't watch TV or use computers or shop in stores... and yet they lived, and I suspect they lived quite enjoyable lives, spending time with family and friends and the world.

Now, here I am, just sitting here, just typing, here, just staring at the words and the letters as they appear on the screen... as my eyes move over the words and I read them... and how bizarre and out of the ordinary this is, when looking at the entire canvas of evolution, and this tiny slice of time, and tiny bit of space, in which we each find ourselves at this instant.

We, we humans, or this machine, this civilization, that we have, that has been, created, or built, is destroying... fields... forests... oceans... species... life as we know it... life as we (humans) knew it for ages, and generations.

We, this machine are doing it.

What are the religious implications of all of this?

Well, just for a moment, let us imagine that the God described by the Christian bible, and taught about in general terms, exists.

What would, should, does he think of us?

We are destroying the earth that he created. We are hacking it into pieces using this machine that we are all plugged into. We are sleeping away our lives, doing nothing, which is to say, doing 'evil'.

God wants us to do good: to allow nature, that which was here before civilization, to thrive and survive and to continue to grow and evolve. Nature, this incredible thing, this amazing and delicate and complicated web of the elements.

Those of us sitting in front of the TV, going about our "jobs" and our careers are not going to get into heaven. We are letting the destruction go on all around us. We aren't talking about it. And even when we do, our actions are minimal at best, and in most cases, whether we know it or not, just make things worse... just fuel this destructive machine faster than ever.

Am I getting into heaven? Of course not. I'm one of the ones that knows a whole lot about what is going on, but I'm doing little, if anything, to reverse the destruction.

Are you getting into heaven? Well, no, because ignorance is not an excuse in the eyes of God. Our intelligence gives us the ability to figure these things out, and to act on them, and to make meaningful our short, short lives.

Is anyone getting into heaven? Yes, there are some that live in harmony with nature, and who are not part of this machine of civilization, and have no possible way to know that there is this machine of destruction and that it needs to be stopped. And, there are others, that see what is going on (it is easy to see, after all) and who are taking action to attack this destructive machine, but I don't know many of them, and they are clearly losing the war.

In the book of Revelations, it is written that only 144,000 will EVER make it to heaven. This very small number really isn't surprising when we consider how few actually do something meaningful to stop the destructive machine.

We condone, we accept, we allow the world to be destroyed.

We give up, give in, give out, and give way so that this civilization can run unfettered over the world.

We, as much or more than those who do not know what is going on and who do not seek, are the ones who are doomed, because we are the ones who saw the horror, could have stopped it, but instead took half-hearted action, or just put it out of our minds and gave up on the world.

I look around this room.

What am I doing here?

The world is being destroyed.

I'm thinking of my next entertainment fix.

This is the crazy.

This is... "reality".
