Spider-Man 3 - What I Learned

Spider-Man 3

Yes, every movie is a learning experience. Let's see what Spider-Man 3 taught me (or reminded me)...

[By the way, I'm writing this for me... in other words, expect spoilers.]

The top ten things I learned from the movie "Spider-Man 3".

10. It is possible to go to a movie alone in the middle of a day to get a nice refresher.

(Who knew that going to a 3 o'clock show, that get's out at 5:30, would be such a great transition from a day at work.)

9. Concessions at movie theaters are probably the most overpriced thing on earth.

(Yes, I bought one consession item, for $4.50, that would have sold for $1.50 at the quickymart.)

8. Going to the theater at a weird time can result in getting a really good seat.

(It was only me there, literally, so I tried about three different seats before settling on the one really close to the screen, so I could take off my glasses and get the Imax effect.)

7. Never underestimate the power of cosmetics.

(Did you get a look at Bryce Howard as Gwen Stacey! What an improvement over "Lady in the Water"! Although, she looked great in "The Village".)

6. On the big screen, 30 year olds pass for 20 year olds.

(Tobey McGuirre will be 32 this month.)

5. Movies about established characters allows the integration of lots of minor characters who have the potential of becoming major characters.

(If you haven't noticed, Dr. Connor's will become "The Lizard"... Ex-fiance of Mary Jane gets zapped in outer space and becomes Man-Wolf. Betty Brant could become a love interest, as could the neighbor.)

4. For a superhero, something is only a story if a whole bunch of extremely unlikely events all converge on exactly the same day.

(Meteor lands near him. Happens to have alien "black oil" inside. True killer of uncle happens to get out of prison the same day. The killer happens to be zapped by some gizmo that makes him into intelligent sand, and a more effective bank robber. Same day as Peter plans to ask Mary Jane to marry him. Same day as bad boy tries to take Peter's job. Same day as he saves girl, who happens to be in his class with Dr. Connors. Same day as Mary Jane gets fired. Same day as buddy decides to go Green Goblin on Peter. Etc. Yeah, well, I guess in the life of a superhero, unless its something like this, then its just same-ole, same-ole. That whole "truth is stranger than fiction" thing, but superhero style.)

3. Never underestimate the ability of a new character to change a bad guy into a good guy. AKA... Every character has a purpose.

(I wondered why the butler was getting so much screen time, but it turns out that his words of wisdom were able to sooth the savage beast.)

2. A kiss is never just a kiss -- when your love interest is watching.

(This could also be one such as "everyone's point of view is different and may be the opposite of your own".)

1. You can never know how someone else is feeling... or what they are thinking.

(This is an easy one to forget... for me, at least.)

Overall, good movie. I saw it twice. Would be willing to see it again. I liked that there were several new characters. The computer imagery and special effects were great. And I was moved emotionally a couple of times.
