Just something I'm working on... not sure if I like it or not

The Next Step

Verse 1
In grade school you flourish
In high school you float
In college you become grown-up
But I must have missed the boat
You spend all your time
With guidelines holding you back
But the funny thing about independence
Is it's the very think I lack.

I'm not ready for the next step
Not ready to break free
Not ready for the realization
Of who I've come to be
I'm not ready to be dismissed
From this childnood paradise
Not ready for the next step
Because the next step is life.

Verse 2
I'm embarking on an adventure
I'll go travel overseas
And I hope that when I return
I'll have discovered me
But will I lose myself completely?
Will I roam too far away?
Isn't it ironic that I'll be home
By Independence Day?

I'm not ready for the next step
Not ready to break free
Not ready for the realization
Of who I've come to be
I'm not ready to be dismissed
From this childnood paradise
Not ready for the next step
Because the next step is life.

Verse 3
Who will be my mentor?
Who will help me through?
Who will take my hand in his
And say, "I'm here for you"?
Who will guide me through the night
And wipe my tears away?
Who will stay beside me
Until the break of day?

Bridge
No matter what happens, I've got myself
I am never really truly alone
I will stand beside myself through thick and thin
And in the end, I'll lead me home.

So I'll be ready for the next step
I'll be ready to break free
I'll be ready for the realization
Of who I've come to be
I'll be ready to be dismissed
From this childnood paradise
I'll be ready for the next step
Because the next step is life.

I have this feeling that it should be "WHOM I've come to be", but that sounds a little strange. But then, so does "who". I don't know.
