Inevitably every year at this time I contemplate moving. Every year I decide not to, but assuming this is the year for change, where should I go? Career wise I can go pretty much anywhere I want. I've definitely had enough of NM, for like 5 years now, just haven't gotten up the gumption to leave. In the last couple of years I've been traveling a ( Read more... )

DC is a clusterfuck. Everyone hates DC. Even people who live in/near DC. Retard High cost of living. Makes Have I mentioned DC sucks? DC embodies everything wrong with this country. Makes LA look like a good option.

San Fransisco is a very pretty city with a few problems. Its in California, its VERY expensive, and taxes are RETARD high. Homeless rates are very high. San Fransisco is a city of renters.

I looked into Seattle several years back, but their crime was very high, attributed to high hard drug use problems. Weather induced depression can also be a consideration. I like rainy/shitty weather, overcast, but I'm not normal sometimes.

Boston is a very cool town. I spent time up in that area this year, it was hard to get used to the accent/attitude of NorEasterners. No idea what it would be like to live there.

Denver is an awesome place to live. Good IT market. Security market kind of blows. Its hit or miss. Denver cost of living has went way down due to housing market crunch. As far as Colorado, for your background Colorado Springs may also be a good fit, lots of .mil/.gov clearance stuff. Many people live in south Denver (nice area) and commute to the springs.

San Antonio is very cheap to live and the north side has been very safe and comfortable. Its boring, but cheap and safe boring. San Antonio would also be good with your clearances. It has a ton of Air Force/info war type jobs. AFCERT, AFIOC, AF ISR, NSA, Security Hill, Battle Lab, Information warfare Squadron etc. etc etc. More than half the security companies in town are .gov related. Full disclosure: south side sucks ass.

Austin is very cool, more expensive than San Antonio, but not as expensive as many other places. Pretty decent job market. HD Moore would probably be a good resource for Austin, as he left San Antonio for Austin a few years ago... If the circumstances were right with job/house, I'd move to Austin myself.

Austin and San Antonio are close enough to commute, if you dont mind a longer commute. I know people who work in austin, but live in san antonio, and vice versa. Its 68 miles between them.

hope this helps.
