Borrow my language

May 24, 2010 15:52

The oil spill has been going on for more than a month now. It's reached land and there's no sign of abatement or even improvement. I can't deal with how badly the whole thing is being handled by people we elected.

Will you help get the attention of our elected officials? I know the whole system is corrupt, but we have to try. Feel free to borrow some of my language if you want, but don't copy verbatim - I don't want it to turn into ignorable form letters.

Re: Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill

Dear __________,

The US government is not doing enough to protect our sea and land from this continuing catastrophe. It is inconceivable to me that the containment of this has been left up to the corporation that caused it and is more invested in profit than the environmental impact of this disaster. An impact that our land and our planet’s ecosystem may literally never recover from.

BP should no longer be in charge of containment or cleanup. Why are the people we’ve elected continuing to allow oversight and cleanup of a global-scale problem to be maintained by a private company? The very company that has already demonstrated beyond question their unmitigated incompetence by allowing this to happen in the first place.

It is time for the US government to step in. This is a monumental disaster. As a voter I would like President Obama to sign an executive order ceasing all domestic BP operations until the spill is completely cleaned up. It is a national crisis that has been going on for more than a month and getting worse each day.

As our elected official, I beg you to make our outrage heard.

Respectfully,
...
