May keeps rolling on

The rest of my school launchbox came this week. Along with my Macbook Pro I also got a scanner and...dun dun DUUUUUUN... A wacom Intuos PRO Medium graphics tablet. This tablet is a thing of beauty and puts my poor little bamboo pad to shame. I mean it's HUGE when all I'm used to is a little 3x5 area to work with. Not only is this a huge tablet, but it's pen AND touch as well. Now I just have to buckle down and earn this setup. I'm doing good so far, but these are just the core classes so no surprises there. It's when I hit the regular drawing part of this class, which is next month, that I'm going to wonder. I wanted computer animation because it's with 3D models. I wanted 3D models because I can't draw. I was always good with clay but most of my drawings sucked when I was young. So know I have to get into this new mindset that it doesn't have to be perfect, I just need to draw. Well, it sounds good while I'm typing it and it sounds good when I read it. Putting it into practice...
On the bright side, I've been playing with the zBrush modeller that comes with the classes. That program started out as a paint program and it shows. Talk about a steep learning curve. Maya ought to be a snap after trying out zBrush. But once you master the menu's of zBrush, oh the things you can create. zBrush is the closest thing to sculpting with clay than any other modeler I've either seen or messed with, which to me is the best thing that could ever happen to a modeler.
Anyway. seems I've written more this month than I have in a long while. Maybe I'm getting used to writing.

Maybe pigs will fly (and Pink Floyd concerts do NOT count).

Next journal entry will be after TimeGate, so I'll let you (very few) know how the convention went.
