Achievement unlocked
Not sure how others would see it, but I personally count is as an achievement that today someone was using direct - but polite - language towards me on the street. Even going so far as to say "we are looking for elegant ladies to ask...".
Not sure how to explain, since English does not have this difference by conjugation. It's close to German. Like you would use formal with your boss, strangers, older people, and personal for family, friends, children. I believe strangers have not used formal language by me since I was 10.
In the capital the same laws apply you would say to yourself as a tourist: block it, and walk by. But in the office I was smiling, re-playing in my head "elegant lady". It does feel good to hear that.
