47 Ronin

Usually I try to keep myself from spoiling the story to anyone... but this time the trailer did everything for me. Seriously. This is one of the films that you see the promo, and in that 1,5 minutes you already know the whole thing.

While I did not know much about the original story, I thought this way, I can give a fair chance to the movie. But the trailer and the poster together... T_T

My problems.
- First of all: Keanu Reeves as Kai, the half-blood who just wants to serve humans, after running away from the group of tengu who raised him... This whole character is off. First he is a gentle soul, then after just a year of being a slave (which is not such a big difference, after how he was used before) he goes all berserk. The love he has for his masters daughter: in one moment he says it's impossible cause of their rank difference, and he is happy enough watching her from far, then he will not let her go, and fights everything in his way so they can be together. And, after my brother this is just me, but I think the way he bows is REALLY strange. Can't explain it, the others can do it, but he is just off.
- The story jumps from one point to another, so I feel that some details are left out, or where shown while I blinked.
- The poster was something that gave casts away. A Witch, a Demon, a Savage... in this the witch turns out to be a demon, the demon is just a clay-soldier - and for so big and strong, he dies a really disgraceful death, without any line spoken - and the tattoo guy speaks a line or two and that's it.

Annoyance:
Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa. If there is a movie with even the slightest bit of Japanese interaction, he is there. I think there are other actors who could have been better for the role. But who cares. He is a known face. >_>

Good parts:
Surprisingly lot Japanese actors, starting with the actress from Galileo, Shibasaki Kou.

Surprise of the movie:
Akanishi Jin plays in this! And he is shown almost as much as the main - being the only son of Oishi, leader of the ronins. There is a side-story about his interaction with his father.

japan, usamovie, akanishi jin
