Telenovela . . . the ugly girl
On a random thought - and because I found a youtube channel with all episodes with Hungarian dub loaded X3 - I watched Yo soy Betty la fea (Betty the ugly girl), a Columbian series yesterday.
I think the basic is known by everyone who watched / watches telenovelas. Betty gets to be hired to be the personal assistant of a model / clothes / marketing, etc. agency (depending on which country the series is in. In the Columbian it's a company designing clothes). After just one short romance Betty realized that romance is not for her type of girl, and lives only for work.
Her boss Armando honors her for being loyal, kind and genius talent for economic, the only problem is that she is ugly.
That is, till one day Armando is forced to basically give the company to her. To keep her faithfulness, he begins to romance her with cards, small gifts, and short kisses. After a few happy moments Betty needs to fall down from her cloud high in the sky, and realize that her boss only played with her.
Somehow I find the contrast, the inverse feelings interesting. Betty realizes the trap the same time, Armando realizes that she is the love of his life. Next to being jealous - which I think is normal - the guy never once misunderstand her reasons, even though there are quite a few, who think she will take the company for her own. Also his way of handling things changes. He might be still rough at the edges, but he doesn't look down on people, who look less beautiful on the outside. His temper also... well, even though it doesn't disappear completely but it gets better. ^^"
Betty is also a nice character. Staying loyal to her beliefs, standing out for others, empathy... all awesome characteristics.
All in all this story is simple, with simple and funny characters, gossip-girls annoying blond cyclone, and bad guys you actually want to hit with all your might.
The ugly girl story is not just from Columbia. The series is alive in many countries under different names. For example in Germany it was Verliebt in Berlin. I know there is an American version, called Ugly Betty as well.
What I'm watching now though is the Mexican version, called Fea más bella. Here the main is called Letty, and the company is handling marketing.
What I like in this part is for example that there is a 2nd guy in the game, Aldo. He is, who helps Letty after she escapes from the company. Aldo also appears at the company later, charming everyone and flirting with Letty all the time, boosting her confidence - and somewhere along the way mine too. ^^
Though the series many times famous singers appear, and though the series the staff tries to strengthen sights / food, etc from Mexico.
The best part. Here Letty gets, hm... Well it's not revenge, but she does get even just a little bit. ^^ It's nice to see that same guy running after her like a poodle who sooted the loudest that she is ugly.
Oh, and why I write about it? Cause some scenes are just so random and funny. Like the one I'm watching now. The guy is totally KO after he knows that Letty thinks he is a jerk. So drunk and all he drives to the beach, and then he needs to stop, as there is a boat. Aldo watches from the sea how he drinks, and soots annoyed who would park a boat on the beach? X3
