At last I have a bit of time to write more about this drama. Last time I mentioned that in some aspects I like this one better then the first.
Cast:
In the 2007 version we have Oguri Shun, Horikita Maki, Mizushima Hiro, Ishigaki Yuma and Ikuta Toma - as the best 'live' Nakatsu I ever saw.
Next to that in the 2011 version is only Nakamura Aoi as Sano, and that's not much...
I don't like the girl playing Mizuki. Sure, she fits more into the all boy school with her looks, but she really doesn't have a pretty face.
Nakatsu is temperament-full all right, but all characters seem to get depressed too quick, even he. And if I say that just after the first episode, than that counts as really quick.
Namba - sorry for any fans of the guy, but GEH! The same goes for Tennouji. ~~"
I believe the best character in the whole 2011 drama is Oscar. That "dokinasai" made even my brother LOL.
New characters - while in the 2007 version it was the director, and her butler-like assistant, while here it's the cook. What the point is in these random characters is a mystery for me.
Even after this much ranting about the new cast, there is a reason why I still like them better: the guys worked on screen more like a unit. It wasn't everyone in their own little world, wanting to over-act the other, but just a bunch of young guys working for the same goal. I really believe this to be how a manga made high-school life should feel. ^^
Story:
This is actually messed up in both versions, and I must say that if a live action is made from the manga, I would want it to be as close to the original as possible.
In both versions it is said that Mizuki and Sano met, he just doesn't remember her. In the 2007 version it was even Mizuki why Sano got hurt. What a bull! Why can't the Japanese script writers let go of this idea? Why can't Mizuki just be a fan of Sano, who got inspired by him, enough to meet and tell him personally?!? It may sound strange like this, but in the manga it's absolutely NOT shown in a stalker-like way.
In the 2011 version the story is even set for - the usual time by Japanese dramas - 3 months, since after that the school will close down. Like HELL would in the manga Osaka Gakuen be closed... not to say, that is a private school. With that many students HOW in seven names of hell could it be almost in ruins, HE?!?
Dormitory
As I know the manga, for me they showed the dormitory leaders, and other dorm students way to early. Can be that it's because they don't work with a high cast, but this was a problem in my eyes. More less time to get to know each main closely, it's like you can only get them as package. ~~"
Dressing as girls
Now this happens in the manga, and all live action versions. But in the manga there are at last guys, who don't like to do it. Here they random dress as cheer leaders, even without being asked.
WTF moments
In the 2007 version the only thing I can never forget is when they say "Let's dancing!" I believe I mentioned it before, and now I know my english skills are not the best, but whenever I hear this line, I want to pull my hair out. These are quality actors, and with a drama that gets watched by a big % of the nation. And they use wrong grammar?!?
2011 version: Blossom girls walking like that, with their hands up in the air. I mean WHAT?!?
Also... Ashiya Mizuki comes from California. And has absolute no idea of baseball? Can't really accept this.
