In short: didn't like it. ~~" There was quite a great fuss about it, but for me the interpretations and change of story line was really annoying.
No adaptation can be good, if it doesn't focus on Pilot. This was basically saying his name once, and running after the horse, and that's it. Unforgivable!!!
Also, Judi Dench as the house keeper... so not looking like it! All the time I had flashes from other of her films where she played a noble or even queen. Also, what in seven names of hell was she looking for in burned down ruins, after a year, he?
Edward... sadly here I couldn't find his character at all. More and more I thought he just asks to be pitied that he married a woman, who got crazy. Quite the pick up line. ~~"
Jane... felt a bit to proud for me. And thinking of things as natural, even though her back ground story is that she didn't own anything at all.
Cut out are: Jane's dream of crushed happiness, the mysterious Grace, Edward's joke with the gypsy fortune teller.
Added in are: some interaction between Edward and Jane. No talk, just short scenes, how they handle each other as an engaged pair.
Also new, and most annoying was how John and his sisters are NOT relatives of Jane here. She just 'adopts' them as family after she inherits a fortune. Also, John sees her 'talking to air' (=meaning answering Edward, whose voice only she can hear from the distance)... this totally makes her look like a lunatic. ~~"
