Ao no Exorcist was recommended by Rid, after we watched The Rite. It's interesting to read something about the same topic, this close to the American interpretation, yet still so different.
In Ao no Exorcist there are two dimensions, one is Assiah where the humans live, and the other the world of demons, Gehenna. the Satan wants to have power over both worlds. But while usually demons can pass into the human world by possessing something, there is no human, who can hold his power.
But now he has a chance, since he impregnated a human woman 16 years ago, and now has a son, Okumura Rin. But the boy was raised by a priest, together with his twin-brother Yukio, and when the Father dies by the attempt of Satan to bring Rin to the demon world, Rin swears to become the best exorcist and defeat Satan.
The possessing is nothing new. But I don't see the logic that any demon would have a catch on you, just cause you talk with it. In another manga, Koori no Mamono though, I read that the real power is when the demon gets to know your name. I believe Natsume Yuujinchou was something like this too - even if reversed. X3
Anyway, back to the actual story... There are many things I would question. For example, how for 15 years the poor guy was left in the dark about who and what he is... which is quite stupid and unfair, seeing as his own twin-brother saw him as what he is from the moment they where born. Also, since Yukio is already an exorcist, this 'I hate you for what you are, but protect you cause you are my brother' is really confusing to swallow in just the 2nd chapter. ~~"
The school, class-mates and tests...
From a shounen-manga the minimum, I would say, but I didn't find it exiting. More like confusing.
The lesson of 'every part of a team has it's strong point' is a good message, but then in the next they are made rivals~... confused the hell out of me. @_@
To have rankings among the exorcist is nothing new really, but the new paladin, Angel, with those wing-like material on his clothes~ I mean really. ~~"
