It was quite a long time ago that I wrote about any. Today I remembered my plan to list telenovelas, and so here is the next!
Szomszédok (Neighbours) is a hungarian telenovela, with it's 331 episodes it was quite the series to watch.
The story is set in a block of flats, about the people living there, their families, friends, everyday life and problems.
What makes this series interesting though that it shows the situtation typical for the age it was recorded. Since it began airing in 1987, in Hungary there was still socialism, and the story shows quite well what the people that time thought and how they behaved.
Then there was a regime-change, and since the series ran till 1999, it shows the slow changes, how people struggled with the new system to find their place.
Not to say the characters got everyday jobs, and it made us really see into lifes of people of that time. For ex. the senior taxi-driver, 'Taki', and his salesclerk wife, Lenke... then their grandchild waitress, Alma, and her husband, the forester. The culture was represented with an opera-singer (XD LOL for that primadonna-type oji-san) and a ceramic-artist. Then the teacher wife and her printner husband, who then begins to get interested in computers, that got into the country about that time. Oh, and the contractor, with all his thinking of getting money... and his workers the gay hair-dresser and the make-up artist, who has a doctor as husband, etc.
Before I list every character up (^^") I just wanted to say that with these jobs it shows quite a clear picture of the system. It wasn't good, that's for sure. ~.~"
