Telenovela: Marimar (mexican)

Aug 06, 2009 18:43

After dangermousie  posted so animated about the Thai drama Defendant of Love (aka Jam Loey Rak) I decided to watch it. Hey, something this crazy, I MUST see with my own eyes. X3
I will post about it, maybe tomorrow, if by that time I don't have tears in my eyes from laughing anymore.

Anyway that drama made me remember an older idea of mine: to post about telenovelas. I'm such a sucker for jdrama, kdrama, etc., but maybe I wouldn't be interested at all, if my childhood wouldn't have been full with these stuff. So for now I begin with those I know about, and then later look up those that seem interesting.

As a child I was often sick, and just sitting at home with fever. Since an ill person should just stay put, I needed to have something to hold my attention, and as must children would, I took hold of the remote. And the thing every channel decided to broadcast in the middle of the day where telenovelas - for bored housewifes, I guess. I got hooked on quite a few, but one stands out quite a bit, and that was Marimar.
Before anyone would say a thing, watch this video.

Thalia was playing the heroine Marimar, and sang the intro of the telenovela too. She was the first person I saw at that time, who was that proud of her body, and could move with such confidence. I guess that would make a great impression on any outcast child. ^^"

Beforehand I must say, that I'm still a bit under the influence of Defendant of Love, so if I may criticise the story to much, excuse me.
Now to the story!

Marimar is an innocent girl living with her grandparents in the village by the beach. Sergio, the son of a wealthy farmer, quickly discovers Marimar's burning passion and the two fall in love.

Despite his father's and stepmother's disapproval they marry, and Sergio brings his new wife to the manor. Sergio's stepmother, Angelica though can't accept Marimar's innocence, and finds her lack of knowledge, and behavior in high society embarrassing and maddening. That's why she always embarrasses Marimar, often handling her as a person below her.

Sergio, as the good husband he is, decides to take Marimar away, and to do that he goes to the city to earn money for a new house.
Good guy. You see how your wife suffers while you're with her. In the time you're away, surely nothing will happen. Really clever!
Not to talk about the fact, that you have a job as a football player in Mexico! Wow! What a firm way to save money, with all those balls and after-parties. Bravo Sergio!

Marimar goes though a lot of indignity, while she suffers from missing her husband. Angelica gives her the finishing stroke: while Marimar is sent to prison for steeling Angelica's bracelet, the stepmother sends one of her servants to burn Marimar's grandparents hut, killing the old people in the process. Angelica even writes a letter in Sergio's name to Marimar, stating that he wants nothing to do with her, and never loved her. All this turns a switch on in Marimar, and she is all on her road: to REVENGE.

After leaving prison, Marimar goes to Mexico City with Padre Porres and on the road meets a nice & rich old man, who teaches her how to read, write, how to handle high society, and to dress elegantly. She finds out she is pregnant, and gives birth to a daughter, Cruz.
The twist in this? The old guy in truth is her biological father, but neither know till much-much later!

As the version up Marimar faces society and has her father take her to the opera, she bumps into Sergio. Now Marimar's revenge can begin. Fueled by anger, under the identity of Bella she seduces Sergio many-many times and then rejects his advances to hurt him.
Next to that she has time enough stripping Sergio's father - whom she raises to gambling addiction using her father's casino - and Angelica - to endure how her husband cheats on her, while she is home with her baby, and then making her crawl in the dirt to fish out the dept-papers of her husband with her teeth - of their wealth and dignity. You GO GIRL!!! XDX3XD

While she has success with the parents, it doesn't look so good with Sergio: they divorce, and he gets to marry his childhood friend, Innocencia (LOL XD). Though Marimar does everything to break them up, and the fact that Sergio is still in love with her works for her, somehow it still doesn't work out.

Later a pregnant Innocencia falls and after having her baby is diagnosed with brain tumor. After her op is a succes, ashamed of all she has done, she divorces from Sergio and lets him go to Marimar.
They finally marry and live happily ever after.

Now what this telenovela taught me:
- don't get together with a footballer, you can never count on them
- every story from mother-in-laws are TRUE
- dirt makes awesome make-up, and sludge gives great contrast with the actresses skin on colored film
- look out how you you handle people you know for the first time, it can be that you're related...
- ...while he/she is really-really-really rich
- ...and with you being all nice to him/her you'll inherit
- your dog can actually understand you and talks even back, you just can't understand him! (Marimar has a dog and though the 160 episodes of the telenovela gives wise advice that sadly nobody can hear)
- (a little sad:) marriages are not graved in stone
- revenge gives power but is bad for the heart
- ...and both your baby and you have it good till she/he can't understand you

telenovelas, pre-review-sum, tv series, *caps, lakorn, video of the day, craziness knows no bounds
